Hi all,

I am currently working on an Eve related project which specifically relates to new players and the new player experience in Eve Online. If you have a couple of minutes I'd love to hear your responses to any of the following questions you feel like answering!

  • Does the corp you currently belong to actively go out of their way to teach you the ropes?

  • Are there other new players in your corp?

  • Is the training of new players an organised event or do they teach you in an ad hoc method?

  • Is there a pool of isk, fittings or ships that you may take advantage of, donated by other members in your corp?

  • If you are in a player run corp (not a starter corp) did someone from your corp approach you to join, or did you find them first?

  • Have you ever used the ingame Recruitment Menu, Recruitment chat channels, or any recruitment based social platforms?

Thanks again for your time!
(Sorry so many edits lol)

Regards.

This is not a recruitment post, nor will the results or research be used for recruiting.
There is another thread regarding this topic but with questions posed for seasoned players in the general discussion forum.

Kindly explain details of your "EVE related project" then?

From these posts, it looks very much like you're looking for players who are unhappy with their current corp, who you will then contact in game with a "better deal".

It is for a paper I hope to submit to whoever gets into the CSM, which I do each year. Last time it was for Ship Customisation (just under 2k players took part), and the years before that on the topic of Microtransactions (around 6k players took ). This time around I was hoping for something created soley from the views of newer players - but this is a much harder group of people to garner responses from!

You know what's worse then alt posting...

Throw away alt posting and then hide a covert recruitment idea in your post.
And it is recruitment because you only ask corp related questions not general new player questions.

- They're very helpful but I'm not asking for help much unless I mess up :P
- not too many I don't think
- not as far as I know
- don't know but I didn't ask for it nor do I need it (I have good income)
- I've been looking for a corp, this one I found simply by asking in local and having a chat
- the ingame corp finder is a hoax, because corps select "everything". According to their advertisement they're all active 24/7, they do everything and they accept every playstyle. Apart from that it has a tendency tol add more possible options even though it doesn't fit your search settings. Result of all that is that whatever you try to do you always end up with the same corps up top and if you check them out they're all generic "everything". That makes the whole selection process fake and meaningless.

If you're in rookie channel and ask questions you get tons of people mailing and convoing you about joining their corp and most of them are just silly. They're either a 2 man corp, have 20% tax or they couldn't even be bothered to remove the typos from their corp info. It's a barrage of bad.

I really tried having a well defined idea of what to look for but it essentially got shot down, partially because I didn't know what I should be looking for and mostly because people lie and exaggerate about their corporation. I now settle for "a group to chat and do some stuff with" and I'm fine with it.

Having read over the questions both here and in General discussion i will admit im mighty curius on what said project is. Its very interesting questions that i really have never tought about before, and it could be very interesting to see some form of "research" on how younger players get treated by their corps against how older players actually DO treat them.

In simple words, hope to see the finished project and good luck Big smile

Yes, your "one Like on the forums" character posting a series of loaded questions is clearly a legit character with no covert and probably fraud-related agenda toward new players, and has definitely been around doing forum-intensive projects for years.

Yup, definitely totally legit.

... albeit, this brings up a good point for the new-player forums. A question that's asked a lot is "how do I tell if a corp recruitment offer is for a 'good corp'/not a scam?" The answer is, refer to the first post of this thread for an incredibly blatant example (of an obvious scam).

I agree.

Your GD thread as normal general questions about the view on EVE by vets.

Yet ANY question you have listed here is just easily translated to: Let me find out if you don't like your corp so I can lure you into mine. Let's do this on a throw away alt so that it won't be as obvious.

Well guess again, it is still very obvious.

EDIT:

Your mail with the links to old "survey" mean nothing to me.

I never saw any official public thread or CSM stuff about the outcome of any of those...so still means that they can be used for internal use or what so ever.

Does the corp you currently belong to actively go out of their way to teach you the ropes?
Yes.

Are there other new players in your corp?
Yes.

Is the training of new players an organised event or do they teach you in an ad hoc method?
When I don't know I ask, it's answered and stuff related to it explained.

Is there a pool of isk, fittings or ships that you may take advantage of, donated by other members in your corp?
There's some ship replacement, other members help or donate when in need.

If you are in a player run corp (not a starter corp) did someone from your corp approach you to join, or did you find them first?
I mentioned I need a corp and I was offered to join which I refused temporarily and took the offer a few days after that.

Have you ever used the ingame Recruitment Menu, Recruitment chat channels, or any recruitment based social platforms?
No. From my experience from other MMOs that's a bad idea to do cause people will describe how things are and make them look much better than are in reality.

There you go.

Great thanks for the replies, and I did not expect such suspicion from this particular forum group. As someone who assumes peoples intentions are as represented I naturally assume the same of others - guess I should know better.

I'm actually quite at a loss as to how you missed the relevance of the links I sent, but it is unnecessary to complicate something that is actually quite simple and straight forward and will leave you to your opinion.
