Hi all,

I'm currently working on an EVE related project, and If anyone could answer any of the following questions I would appreciate it, thanks!

  • Are there any Non Profit Entities that benefit new Eve players not specifically related to them? For example: they run free events, donate isk to causes, offers free training (or training materials)

  • In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"?

  • What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE?

  • What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE?

What corps and alliances specifically welcome new players and help train them, and are not listed below.
If you know the specific corp in the alliance I would welcome their name!

I wouldn't suggest that new players are ever considered "old" based on game time, but rather game experience.
You could mine for five years and still be new to eve really, it's only once players join a corp in an alliance and experience the aspects of EVE they enjoy in a group of like-minded individuals, that they can really start to be considered experienced.
For we all know that it's not the aspect of the game you enjoy that matters, but who you enjoy it with that does.

The most boring thing is simple: Playing alone, regardless of what you are doing. Even ice mining is fun when you have a group of mates to chat, exchange links, and joke with during that time.

The most fun I had as a newbie was getting into a group op for the first time, sitting there mining rocks in a large group, chatting on voice and using the in-game text chat. Lolz were had by all.

Are there any Non Profit Entities that benefit new Eve players not specifically related to them? For example: they run free events, donate isk to causes, offers free training (or training materials)

Corps do usually look out for their own, and sometimes provide free materiel for corp members. Passively training people (teaching each other, etc) is always free, and some corps even dedicate themselves to being teaching hubs.

Some people do run events from time to time, like how Heretic Army ran the Frigfest events in Amamake, or the yearly Hulkageddon (with its various sponsors). Stuff like this is fairly rare, though.

I am not aware of any "ISK donor" entities in Eve, unfortunately.

In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"?

That's hard to define. Some people play for a few months and become more well versed in their topics of interest than others who haev been playing for years. Alternatively, someone who's been playing for years could try a new activity and find himself in a newbie's shoes again.

So, it depends on what the person is "new" at, how good/dedicated they are at mastering it, and other things.

What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE?

Nothing particularly boring comes to mind. In a sandbox game like EVE, when you're bored, you always have the option of finding something else to do that is fun.

What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE?

Hitting the "Observe" button on everything since everything looked so cool.

What corps and alliances specifically welcome new players and help train them, and are not listed below.
Can't help there, but I'm sure the other thread responders will oblige.

Good luck on your project!

Are there any Non Profit Entities? hmm hard to say because mostly every corp alliance out there either want to gain more iskies or Increase their strength by recruiting new players so basically i don't think so.... there will always be a motive.

In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"? hmm well it will differ from one player to another but in my opinion 5 month will be enough for any player to know mostly 80% about the game and would have experienced a lot of things to make him a little wise.

What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE? well there isn't really something BORING but when i started out i used to do a lot of mining compared to now i do incursions and pvp ... well mining isn't Boring but umm well if you're doing it alone it will be kind Repetitive...

What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE? Watching and buying new ships and waiting for new designs to come out .. + some fleet pve action or pvp.

What corps and alliances specifically welcome new players and help train them, and are not listed below. Corp "Disturbed Friends Of Diazepam [DFOD]" is a very Friendly and Helpful corp, it's currently with Tribal Band [TRIBE] alliance.

RvB isn't that good for true newbs. While it can allow low entry fights, it isn't really the best place for pilots to learn the game.

  • In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"?

  • It's a lot more nuanced than that since there's so many ways to go. A player can be a complete newbie in one field while being fairly knowledgable in another and a pro in yet a different one. In general, i'd say that a player would have to had his hands in a couple of different pies before he can call himself anything else than 'beginner'. Playing EVE is more than just taking one thing then never looking at something else.

  • What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE?

  • Travelling. I would try to make sense of the ingame map and try to get from A to B without really knowing why. After staring at my warping ship for half an hour i was really looking forward to reaching my destination so i could do something more stationary.

  • What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE?

  • Sitting on the Jita undock and looking at all those pretty hips flying by. Clicking show info on those ships and their pilots.
Also, after i knew more about the game, developing a plan on how to progress, setting a longterm goal and various stepping stones on the way. And yeah, my longterm goal at that point was "being able to afford, fly and use a Viator". *swoon*

    1. Are there any Non Profit Entities that benefit new Eve players not specifically related to them?

Estel Arador Corp Services (if they're still around) allowed for free/easy jumpclones across a number of stations/systems in New Eden. However, as has been said before -- there usually is an ulterior motive behind a lot of the "freebies" that people are given when they're "new".

    2. In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"?
Older than me. Been here for ~6 years, and there's still stuff I've barely scratched the surface of.

    3. What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE?
    Learning Skills.

    4. What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE?
WTF is that huge awesome looking ship!??!! (It was a Myrmi...)

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

    • The only one i can think about that is not listed is Chribba and his random smaller events. Its been a while since i have heard about him doing an event tho and im not sure if he stil does them at all.
But honestly most people are willing to help younger players, either trough the forums or ingame. I have often found my self giving some random young player some ISK or mods just because i happend to be in a station with them. Granted this is also partly because im always on the lookout for recruits and you never know, they might remember you years later Smile

    • In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"?

    • 2-3 months is when i object with people calling them selfes a "noob" anymore. At that time most have gotten the very basics of teh game, and started to speziialise in one field or another to some extent. There are always exeptions ofc.

    • What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE?

    • Jumping a hauler full of fuel trough 0.0. Someone had to make sure the POS had fuel Smile

    • What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE?

"Tricking" a pirate.. Granted the fun stopped really fast when said pirate set the corp KOS, which at that time terrefied me since i did not understand what exactly this ment (exept that it sounded bad Blink ). So i guess its fun because it was both a "Haha! I tricked you!" moment, and i can think back about how much i have learned since then, and to never never leave that last HAHA in local before you jump out when someone tries to ransom your shiny new ship Lol

This is impossible to answear. There are so many new player friendly corps out there that will never be reckonised or mentioned anywhere, and i think most are actually new player friendly. Even those that ask for 5 mill SP and similar are often more then willing to accept a new player as long as they represent them selfes well.

No RvB who are new player friendly.

Yet you list Red Frog. Where you cant enter unless you are a proper skilled creighter and yet they dont teach amything. You join, pick up freight and haul. No teaching at all.

I'm going to give a shout out to Sindel Pellion's Angel Project, since no one has yet mentioned it. A philanthropic organization funded by donation.

In general, what age would you class a player before they are no-longer "new"?

New, isn't age related, it is a state of mind - I regard myself as new still! Lol

What was the most boring thing you remember from when you started EVE?

Nothing, everything was exciting and awesome!

What was the most fun thing you remember from when you started EVE?

Flying outside the starter area on the way to Arnon for the SoE arc and not being ganked when I fully expected to be at every gate. It was the sense of real danger at every turn or distracted moment that kept my eyes glued upon the screen.

RvB Ganked nights are fun free events that welcome all players
Agony Unleashed offers PvP classes that are not free, but once you have completed a course you can join later classes for the roam at no cost.

Sitting in station during a war dec and not being allowed to undock because that overbearing mother that is Eve University doesn't allow its members to undock without someone holding their hand. Needless to say, I didn't stay long.

I would take Red Frog off the list, they are a hauling corp and have nothing to do with new player training. I would also take Agony Unleashed off the list. They do offer classes to non-members and I would recommend these to any new player, but they are not a new player training corp. They require experience if you want to join them.

Finally, I would add my own corp Pod or be Podded to the list. We are still fairly small and new, but welcome all experience levels and will support new players.

My first corporation was EVE-U. Right after joining, they were wardecced by a mercenary corp who held a grudge on EVE-U, and so alumns where told to stay docked to not provide easy kills, or go to a shelter corp and play alone. 4 wardecs in a row teached me more about EVE and CCP than i wanted to know and so i quit EVE-U without ever attending a single lesson nor a fleet flight nor learning ****, all THX to EVE working as intended.
