WARNING: Buddy program reward = abuse of "hours for PLEX"

Got 30 days time reward on alt account from buddy program, re-activated account with "hours for PLEX", used 30 days reward to activate account, got "hours for PLEX" removed* from account permanently due to "abuse".

Probably same rule works if you reconsider and instead of PLEX use credit card or any other payment option.

Be careful.

* edit: I should clarify - "hours for PLEX" weren't removed, just GMs refuse to re-activate them due to 30 days from buddy rewards = "abuse" of "hours for PLEX" despite "another available subscription to his account" stated in devs blog.

It says "Hours for PLEX". Why would you activate hours for Plex if you're going to apply any other form of payment?

The system is automated and merely validates if a Plex was redeemed in that account within the allotted time (4h!). Even though you subscribed, you failed to redeem a Plex, thus abusing the system.

Anything else I can help with? Cool

Probably it should check if account was re-activated or not.

Anyway two accounts damaged. Probably it's time to take a longer break from EVE + shutdown my "EVE buddy" activity.

Untrue.

I've subbed accounts via regular subscriptions after turning on hours for plex over the years, without issue.

"Hours for PLEX" is accessible through the account management pages and allows players, with disabled accounts, to activate their accounts for 4 hours. Once the account has been activated, the customer has 4 hours to add a PLEX, or another available subscription to his account. This option will then become available again once the account is disabled. Please note that if no subscription is added with a PLEX to the account during the 4 hours timeframe, the "Hours for PLEX" option will be deactivated for that account and can only be re-instated by a member of Customer Support. This is to make sure that it's used for the intended purpose only.

We hope you enjoy this new convenient feature.

On further research, it seems you have been glitched by the system, see bold above. Petition it

Well, this just proves CCP are in good faith and actually accounted for some other use cases other than the one described in the feature. Even though I agree that the whole point is to get you subscribed, regardless of payment method, the feature is actually quite simple and well explained and half a brain should be more than enough to understand it's rules. (below)

Rules:
1. Use a Plex or lose that functionality in the future.

On further investigation, seems like it is no glitch at all and well intended to work like it did. Even though you have 4 hours time to "add a PLEX, or another available subscription to [the] account", which you bolded correctly, see what I underlined in that post.

It clearly says that, if you do not activate it with a PLEX, the "Hours for PLEX" option will be deactivated.

SO.. OP activated "Hours for PLEX" as offered by CCP and used not a PLEX, but another available subscription method, which is ok and intended to work - and it worked! He did it within 4 Hours as intended and got his subscription renewed as intended. However, He also got the "Hours for PLEX" option deactivated, which was also stated by the above text to happen if you dont add a subscription "with a PLEX".
Now if he still had the "Hours for PLEX" option available it wouldnt work as they say it does. given the fact than everything happened the exact way it was described, there is little reason to believe in any bugs.

In Fact its simply a matter of "I didn't read carefully enough and want to be reimbursed for my loss"
This is in no means different from becoming a victim of a Jita local contract spamming scammer and then trying to make CCP responsible for not reading the the contract carefully enough.

OP accepted an offer from someone else and got exactly what it was described as, yet complains in here. ...

Accounts now can't use standard feature - PLEX (and buddy rewards) to re-activate if expired.

You're all missing a very important point in the OP.

Normally when HoursForPLEX is disabled on an account, due to not PLEXing in the required timeframe, the HoursForPLEX option simply disappears. If you try and use a link to navigate to the HoursForPLEX page, you get the error:

Quote:

Hours for Plex is not available for use with your account.
Hide this message.

However the OP stated :

Quote:
got "hours for PLEX" removed from account permanently due to "abuse".

This non-standard "abuse" message implies a direct and intentional GM intervention.

Account has standard message "hours not available". GMs used term "abuse" (using 30 days from buddy program to re-activate = "abuse", using PLEX from buddy program = isn't abuse I guess) when I petitioned to re-activate hours for PLEX.

I'll ease your pain a little by telling you that you can still use GTC to reactivate using secure trades from Timecode Bazaar. The account doesn't need to be active to buy GTC for ISK (but obviously you must have enough isk on the inactive char, that's what "give money" is for though).

Petition to turn it on resulted in "abuse" accusation. Thus this post - to warn others: using buddy rewards to reactivate account during "hours for PLEX" resulting in damaged account with "hours for PLEX" disabled permanently.

Actually it's funny how CCP consider result of work of one of their programs is abuse for another.

So the abuse was actually a response from a GM in a petition? :) Finally this thread is going ... somewhere .... errr ... places!

Let me know how discussing GMs rullings and/or forum moderation works out for you!

If you had it removed by the GMs it's because you probably found a loophole to exploit the system and got the feature removed for it. Good riddance mate ;)
