New 'Unknown' Faction

There's an 'Unknown' Faction now being listed in the 'Standings' section of the Character sheet.

I saw a thread in another sub-forum where someone asked about this 'Unknown' Faction. Another player answered and said it was Mercenaries and it's a bug due to they're not supposed to be listed which will be fixed soon.

Yeah right.

I decided to check it out and found out his answer is incorrect.

In my character sheet / 'Standings' section / 'Disliked By' tab / the 'Unknown' Faction is listed at -1.20 with Diplomacy lv 5. Right click and 'Show Transactions' has 4 entries listed at -12.0% each for 'Combat - Ship Kill'. Right click for 'Details' states :

It looks like Rogue Drones are now being listed as a new emerging Faction, probably due to being 'Sentient'. Makes sense due to having Bounty placed on them by DED, right?

Anyway, I haven't seen any official CCP statement about this new 'Unknown' Faction. My records indicate it's Rogue Drones. If it is correct, it would have been nice to have seen this info in a Dev Blog.

Will there be Rogue Drone Corporations and Agents available in the future? If so, what type of items will be available in their Loyalty Points Stores?

What do you think?

That's from Rogue Drones, specifically from doing a few expedition sites.

I haven't encountered any Mercs or done any missions within the past few months. All I've been doing is exploration and Mercs don't have any exploration sites. They definitely don't have any structures named 'Strain Operation Bunker' or 'Drone Lookout'. Also if you just 'Show Info' on the 'Unknown' Faction listed in the 'Standings' section of the character sheet, it opens up a message box with this :

One thing is for sure, I definitely haven't lost a ship recently.

In the future, please do some research first instead of quickly posting incorrect info that's nothing more than just 'Hearsay'.

It’s a long read but it alludes to something unknown, a race would be my guess, or a faction from the Minmitar tribes: not sure how it applies to your standings hit or even if it applies. But I am always wary of coincidences especially when all of the factors are not random like in a programmers mind.

IIRC the "Unknown" faction first apeared some months ago and the was removed in one of the patches. Since its reapearance I have had entries for a -12.0% ship kill for various structures (not just drone structures, but also blood) and for some named NPC mercs. A friend also reported that he got the same reduction for helping a new player kill Dagan in the SoE arc.

It also seems that (at least?) one DUST corp is a member of the "unknown" faction. I don't have the link to hand, but could no doubt search it out if people want to see it.

On the basis of what I've seen I don't think that there is any eveidence to suggest that this is a new emergent drone (or any other) faction.

The only person here that's off base is you. In the future, please refrain from trying to defend another persons EHONOR when they are in fact incorrect. Why, because that in turn makes you incorrect and more importantly, shows that you too also missed the whole point of this thread.

Seems most everyone around here is going with the general consensus that the 'Unknown' Faction pertains to Mercs.

By the way, the -12.0% standing hit for destroying structures isn't the issue or the point of this thread. The poster stated that it's Mercs without acknowledging that those structures actually belong to Rogue Drones. The transaction details I posted basically shows the 'Unknown' Faction is indeed Rogue Drones.

However, if you or anyone else can show proof that the 'Unknown' Faction is indeed Mercs or something else other than Rogue Drones, I will gladly apologize and admit that I was wrong.

Plain and simple.

I checked my standings, unknown faction is present with negative standings also, but in my case I have got it for killing mercenaries, haven't killed any drones in a while.

The Dust corp I mentioned in my previous post that is part of the unknown faction is "Arkombine". You can find it by searching in people and places. Its description reads:

"The Arkombine is a splinter group of disillusioned clone soldiers. Betrayed by the nations they swore to serve they now seek independence and the means to undo what has been done to them. Their ranks are comprised of clone soldiers from all four of the major factions."

which doesn't really sound much like rogue drones to me.

The details listed in my standings losses for the unknown faction in the last few weeks are as follows:

Only some of those relate to rogue drones and they were all generated doing the 7 part mission "New Worlds". The other entries came from doing various missions involving mercenaries and the blood raiders DED 3/10 site. I can see nothing linking any of these entries to any new faction drone or otherwise.

Looks like the unknown faction applies to mercs and drones:
-12.0% This penalty was incurred for destroying Unknown's Drone Bunker in XXX
-0.3% This penalty was incurred for destroying Unknown's Mercenary Overlord in XXX

The former was for Infiltrated Outposts (drones), the second for Stop the Thief (mercs).



Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

According to the various replies, it seems more than likely this is indeed a bug, which is what the player said who first originally brought this issue to my attention..

Due to the new information being presented in this thread, I now stand corrected and as I said earlier, humbly offer my apology to those who were offended..

In the past most of the details everyone has posted in this thread would have been credited to it's own specific Faction. Now it appears that various different entries are randomly being dumped into a generic classification as 'Unknown' Faction. That definitely is a bug, especially when the details clearly state the name of the destroyed structure or NPC.

I'm not embarrassing myself. However, if you had posted this info with your initial reply to this thread, then this whole misunderstanding wouldn't have happened. As for 'losing faith in our species', I've already done that due to people not including important info in their initial posted reply.

Anyway, the 'Details' you posted pertain to Angel Cartel, not to Mercs.
