How long will it take me to catch on to this game? Will it be less than 14 days? lol. Question

So if I am in the hi sec area and someone tries to make me eject and I do not. What can they do to me?

Can another player really just put a bounty on me for no reason at all?

How can I get more involved with other players in the Eve community?

Hey, welcome to Eve.

You can pick up the basics very quickly, but I don't think there's any one person who's an expert at the whole game. 14 days is more than enough if you have a good corp to answer your questions. Solo... well it depends on you.

If you're in hisec and somebody aggresses you without you having done something to them first, CONCORD will blow them up. However, that may not stop you getting blown up first. CONCORD are for consequences, not for protection. Basically if somebody tells you to eject in hisec, it's a newbie scam. Just warp away. If they scram you, CONCORD will blow them to dust.

Yes, as of the recent expansion you can be bountied by anyone at any time. Don't worry about it unless it's a really massive bounty and you're flying expensive ships.

As for getting involved, have a look in the recruiting section of the forums and find a corp that has a good number of active pilots in your timezone that do the sort of thing you want to do. Join up and participate. If the corp isn't going well or isn't helping you out, try a different (bigger) one.

What blackhuey said about they not being any experts on everything in EVE is very true. Even when you have played for years there will be areas/professions you dont have that much exsperiense with beyond the basics. Dont try to learn it all, it is simply just to much. Do the tutorials, look around, find what you think you will enjoy and focus on that until you decide to try something different.

And for joining a corp, this "guide" might help you when you feel ready to start looking. There is also a lot of useful infomation left out of the two original posts that can be found reading peoples questions and replies.

1.) That depends on you. But don't expect to be a pro veteran in less then 14 days. Even after more then 2 years, I'm still learning and lack knowledge in certain things.

2.) They CAN kill you, but any aggression in high-sec generally means CONCORD will punish the offender. There are exceptions where PvP is allowed in high-sec:

* War between 2 corporations
* Being in the same player corp.
* Having a suspect flag (means anybody can shoot you for 15 min)
* Being an outlaw (sec. status below -5, makes you free for all)
* Being in a duel.

3.) Yes. You can randomly throw bounties around, you can even bounty yourself. But bounties don't change the agression mechanics. So a bounty doesn't make you a viable target by itself.

4.) Be social. Join chat channels, post on the forum, get in a corp....

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

I've been playing off and on since beta and there are still huge sections of the game I know little to nothing about. Wormholes for example.

The first question is too vague to answer, but if you're more specific I'll try.

People can do anything to you in high sec that they can do anywhere else, it just has a higher level of NPC enforced punishment afterwards.

Yes people can put a bounty on anyone, but nobody will care unless you have a huge bounty and fly expensive ships.

That depends on what community you want to be involved in and how. The answer varies. My advice to a miner would be drastically different than my advice to a FW player for example. I'd tell the faction warfare player that the NPC militias are cliquish and full of spies and that it'll be hard to get fleets in one. They're better off joining a player corp. On the other hand, i'd give a miner the opposite advice for war dec reasons, as well as the fact that mining is much less fleet dependent.

Simply asking in your starter corporation chat whether any other new players want to group together can get some positive responses.

Getting involved with other players in EVE is very important. This is a very social game. Most players who play this game for a long time do so because of the friends they have made in game. The key to this is to find a good corp of active players who are heavily involved in the corp activities and who stay on comms (teamspeak vent or mumble). These things will lead to interesting play every time you log in.
