Level 4 Dominix Trouble

Hi there,

I'm a returning player, but didn't play a hell of a lot to begin with, and I'm finding level 4s very tough. My Dominix fit is as follows;

High power
1x Small Tractor Beam I
5x 350mm Prototype Gauss Gun

Medium power
2x Cap Recharger II
2x Tracking Computer II
1x 100MN Afterburner II

Low power
2x Prototype Armor Kinetic Hardener I
1x Large Armor Repairer II
1x Drone Damage Amplifier II
1x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
2x Prototype Armor Thermic Hardener I

Rig Slot
1x Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I
2x Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

Charges
Thorium Charge L
Antimatter Charge L

Drones
5x Garde I
5x Hobgoblin II
5x Hammerhead II
5x Salvage Drone I
5x Ogre I

The fitting shows 150DPS for turrets and 345DPS for drones for a total of 495DPS.

Then my skills Eveboard.

My main problem is getting web'd and scram'd by frigates and not being able to knock out cruisers, I can slowly slug it out with the BS's but I feel like I'm on the verge of needing to warp out a lot (hence the scraming frigate issue). And utilising my drones for the frigates and cruisers tend to get my hobgoblins and hammerheads targeted and attacked a lot. My turret DPS seems weak, or rather it doesn't harm cruisers very much at all even with tracking scripts.

I know I should train Gallente BS up to 4 and maybe try for the Large Hybrid Specialisation are there any other skills I should focus on?

Thanks for your help

The core problem is that your skills are rather weak, and the Dominix is a skill-hungry ship.

To begin with, get T2 hardeners and Gallente BS 4. (Like, yesterday!)

Second, T2 sentries > T2 guns for skill training priority. Guns used to provide about half the damage the Dominix had, now it's something like 30/70 to 20/80 in favor of drones thanks to DDAs.

As for your fit:

  • Cap boosters are your friend. This will allow you to...
  • fit Omnidirectional Tracking Links. They are more important than tracking computers.
  • You probably want to cut out a hardener for another DDA once you have full T2 tank.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm part of the way through Hull Upgrades V at present and will add it after my current skill is complete.

With regard to mission specific hardeners, I've figured that anything needing explosive is probably going to need 2 hardeners but when its the usual Kinetic/Thermal if I were to drop one would it be 2 Kinetic and 1 Thermal? For enemies with all damage types I went with one of Thermal/Kinetic/Explosive and an Adaptive Nano Membrane is that overkill and should I drop the ANM?

Thanks again.

There are no rats with all around damage type, they always do type1/type2. So if you can only fit 2 hardeners go for primary type or if your ship has that resist high enough fit 1 hardener per each type. With 3 slots tank go with 2 for primary 1 for secondary. Don't use ANM because you are wasting a slot without gaining much resists to important type of damage.

And to be honest I wouldn't go for L4s without t2 tank and gank, too much time wasted on killing rats and too much hussle with controlling your tank and cap. You could probably run 5 L3s for every 1 L4 with your current skills/fit and earn more within same time.

there is a new method to the domi that does not require heavy taking skills

a basic set up is to include a micro jump drive to your fit, it will require a few hours training but well worth it.

make sure you drones and your self can target over 100km , use the MJD to get the range and snipe from a distance.

frigs will pop quite quickly and you wont take much damage.

as for skills drones drones drones, guns can wait, your drones will be your main dps so anything that increases the damage from them is a good start.

my set up may not work for you but ill share please bear in mind its a Navy domi and thus has one more mid slot everything i have is either faction or t2 but it should work well enough for t1

High:- 2 drone link argumentors
4 350 compressed boom guns

Med:- 2 omni directional thingymebobs
3 cap rechargers
and the Micro Jump drive

Low:- 3 drone damage mods
1 large amour rep (best you can get or money can buy some good faction reppers out there)
2 amour hardners (based on mission type)
Type-D Attenuation Signal Augmentation (needed it for range)

Rigs :- cap recharger t2
aux nano pump
Nanobot accelerator

Note i am looking at replacing my amour rigs for a drone damage rig.

FYI, if you are going up against a Exp/kin dealing enemy, I'd consider shield tanking it - shields have better native resists against that damage, and that way you can deal a lot of damage.

I only have a Navy Domi, and I shield tank it, but that frees up my lows, and the result is that the N Domi is one of my highest DPS ships (surpassing my Nightmare I think, and getting close to my Vindi)

The Domi can do just as much DPS, its shield tank would just be weaker.

Do you have:
*Drone interfacing to IV? if not, get it
*Combat drone operation to IV? if not, get it
*Drone sharpshooting to at least 4? if not get it
The domi should be able to chew frigs up very well

I second the idea of ditching your tracking computers, and adding omni-tracking links

Gun spec is not a priority now (note that you'd have to use T2 hybrids to benefit, and those use 25% more capacitor than your meta 4s)

You might consider dropping a (thermic) hardener, and adding a resist rig, to allow you to fit another DDA
Unless you're doing shield gank, I wouldn't even bother with the Mag field stab. A 2nd DDA will add more to your DPS than that 1st mag field stab, heck, even a 3rd DDA will still increase your DPS by more than that first mag field stab.
By dropping your mag field stab and 1 thermic hardener, you can fit 2 more DDAs, for a total of 3, which is near "ideal"
Your DPS will be much higher - just try it. Also, as you'll notice your gun DPS is now very little, the tracking computers will simply make no sense, and you'll obviously agree the omni links are better.
At this point, 3 DDAs, 2 omni links, your medium/light drones should tear up those frigates, and your gardes should tear up the BSs

Ditch the tractor beam, use a drone link if you intend to snipe (as with a MJD), or add another gun.
On that note - have you trained electronic warfare drone interfacing to 3 or 4 (to extend drone control range to 54 or 57 km)?
Also note, you can do the gallente lvl 4 epi arc for a storyline/pseudo-faction drone link that gives you 6km more range than with the t1 link.

I would also consider replacing the Ogres with the caldari heavy drone (forgot its name), Kin damage is better than Therm for serp/guristas/angel rats, and its faster, speed is the main problem with heavy drones.
Although... your garde tracking should suffice for BSs in close, and they have a buit of a range issue - BSs at range take too long for heavies to reach.... I'd swap the heavies out completely for Wardens (or bouncers, or Curators, depending on the enemy's weakness)

God damn it, lost last post

H:
4x350mm
2xdrone range

M:
1xlarge shield booster
2xmission specific hardeners
1xomni (drone tracking)
1xmicro warp drive

L:
4xdrone damage amp
2xsignal amp
1xtracking enhancer

Will pull 700+ dps at over 100km with Tungsten and Bouncers

If npcs get close, switch to antimatter and gardes, will pop everything quickly

agreed, this is the best way to run a lowskill Domi

Thanks for all the replies I've found all of them helpful, I'm training Hull Upgrades V now and my T2 tank will be available. I am parking the Domi up for a while to run Level 3s instead when I run missions as Schmata Bastanold suggested, I can complete them much more quickly run them and earn more compared to my current Level 4 runs.

The micro warp drive technique interests me but I think I'd need to get some skills ready for that too, especially T2 sentries.
