I'd hate to break it to the guy who's fronting this little project, but I seriously doubt its going to be as big a hit as he thinks it will be.

For starters, what made it so popular was the fact that it was the biggest cruise liner of its time. It is now dwarfed by today's standard cruise liners.

It was a engineering marvel in design (built with the finest of cheap ass materials) and supported many of the latest technologies but it sounds like he wants to restrict many current technologies for the guests. It will be hard to compete with cruise liners that sport theme parks, water slides, pools, casinos, and other huge events, as well as internal room conveniences that allow the never really vacationing working person to continue their daily business (at $60 per hour of use)

I'm sure it will still draw a niche crowd, mainly consisting of people who wants to spread their arms out at the bow of the ship and older people, but with as high paced and high profit these cruises are today, he really won't be able to compete.

Other modern updates to the Titanic II will include:
- Norovirus enabled staterooms
- Convenient hallway sewage troughs
- Signs directing you to the nearest over-the-rail spew points
- Hotdog vending machines on every floor

All the features we've come to expect from modern cruise liners.

No TV's or internet access.

I wouldn't step foot on any cruise liner anyways but .. that's just silly.

What is odd about this is the Titanic wasn't the only ship of her class or even the first one, the Olympic was. The Olympic was described as unsinkable and several collisions including shearing a U-Boat in half in the War pretty much proved it.

That still remains the only time in history a warship was sunk by a completely unarmed civilian ship

I actually want to go on it. I dont mind the lack of "mod cons". Frankly being unplugged from my office phone and email would be quite nice.

That and I'm in love with all things 19th century and pre 1920s technology and culture...

hit a friggin iceberg. This is what makes this "replica" such a great experience. The cruise ship actually plans to hit an iceberg and sink. This is why no high tech gadgets, its gonna be a reality TV show, ala Survivor, complete with playing band.

I would go, but i got accepted to the Mars thing already... so meh

The Olympic was a civilian ship before WWI, and was refit to be a troop transport soon after the start of the way. When she sunk the U103, it had been equipped with several 6-inch guns and other weaponry. The crew had spotted the U103 submarine, and opened fire on it, while the ship itself turned to ram it.

The U103 could have sank the Olympic, had it's Torpedo tubes been able to fire.

In other news, the Hindenberg II was proposed today....

And due to an unfortunate circumstance, it crashed into the Titanic II.
