Sounds like a personal problem. Option is there. Option to loot the ship is there, especially if you have a ship dedicated to this standing by. If you lose money because you don't take advantage of this, its really not anyone's fault but yours.

We know. And we have to add that to the "Risk" side of the ganking equation.

And that'd be a fair point, and its one reason why if I personally was a ganker and hoping to profit? I wouldn't do it without someone on the scene to loot, and to try and avoid giving vultures opportunity. A lot harder to do when you're establishing a territory though, yes. Point is, profiting is possible and incredibly easy if you know what you're doing and picking your targets carefully, rather than drawing attention to yourself. Should it be easier? Ehh.. that's where its up for debate... high sec isn't supposed to be low sec/null sec, but there's gotta be some sense of danger.

Oh, and Starfox, just because you don't like what someone has to say, doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about. The vultures are ultimately something the ganker has to get around. I get that, I just don't see it as a problem.

Fair point. I rather enjoy the challenge of outdoing the vultures. Sometimes we use decoys so the vultures camp the wrong target, which gives us valuable seconds to attack, loot, salvage the real target. In fact, I prefer that vultures be able to interrupt our ganks if they play right and we play wrong, it gives them a way to play effectively and works to the entertainment of both. What I object to is Ripards implication that salvage is always part of the equation. It's nowhere near guaranteed.

Oh look, James's propaganda squad, undying loyalty in the cause. The attempt a character assassination is more blatant than James's . Please try harder.

I understand you feel your gameplay is under threat from certain elements in the community and within CCP itself. You would be right in saying that ripard doesn't want to tear apart highsec, you would be wrong saying he wants to stop ganks, or lobby for any changes that destroy your precious PvE experience. The role of CSM is not to be a junior game designer, this should be repeated ad nauseum for people like you. CSM is a sieve for CCP's less stellar ideas. To moderate the most silly of the ideas.

Not. Junior. Highsec . Game. Designer.
No.

I would be wrong saying that, which is why I'm not saying it. He's terribly misinformed about how ganking works in highsec, something which he appears to be remedying if his latest blog post is any indication. We know for a fact his famous "gankers arguments sound like slaveholders and rapists" blog post came well before his attempt to actually find out more about ganking. If you follow his blog you know he has a history of taking positions he later changes because he doesn't know what he's on about. A guy like that should rightfully be challenged when he attempts to represent "every play-style in EVE."

Agreed. CSM is an advocacy platform, not an executive or legislative platform. That doesn't or shouldn't stop candidates from having a platform that includes game design changes that they will advocate for, but not necessarily design or implement themselves. Ripard is no exception, as he has put forward several positions that only a junior game desinger could implement (such as requiring more than one 5m ISK destroyer to kill a 200m exhumer).

You are a cancer in this game.

I have no doubt you will win a seat. Given that you have goon backing (last I heard Mynnna had given you 4.4 billion), I have no doubt you will be there, pushing your scorched earth agenda.

High sec needs ZERO changes in income generation, but does need more protection from griefers like you.

If you think that's bad, you should see him in Mynna's thread.

Some choice quotes from that thread (about Mynna),

You're mistaken Poe, I was also unaware that posting killmails was not allowed here. You'll notice I posted my own killmail in my response to Ripard which also got removed. I don't like Ripards platform but I have no interest in siccing mod aggro on him.

Yeah, it does seem you tempt ISD a lot. You even tried to get them to talk about politics and such on this thread, which is a no-no. Or perhaps even made them enforce one rule to break another.

What a hard wire they walk.

Hi ISD Suvetar, my apologies. I was unaware of that particular rule. Thanks for the note! Oops

For Marc Callan and everyone who was waiting, the first two posts that he requested are up:

My reaction to James 315's proposals for high-sec:
Things could be worse

Garth's reaction to James 315's proposals for high-sec (NSFW language):

I'll catch up with the (non-sperge) questions in this thread tomorrow. Getting kinda late here.

I'm surprised by how Ripard is taking this thread. You would think a "professional negotiator" would stick to the point instead of ad-hominem attacks. Does being held to account on your ideas really upset you that much that you have to resort to insults here and on your blog ("remarkbly terrible, sperg, f'n moron"), linking killmails against forum rules to shift the focus on me to avoid talking about your platform?

I was hoping for straight answers but I guess I'm not going to get any from a guy who has admitted to using insensitive and incendiary analogies for blog traffic. More elite communication skills I guess.Roll

If you ever feel like using any of the "professional negotiation" Roll skills you mention in your OP, I'm still waiting on answer as to how you justify your support for the concept of ISK tanking.

I had a lot of respect for Ripard (see earlier in this thread) but I have to say that he is saying some impressively dumb things in this campaign.

"If highsec miners move to lowsec and nullsec you won't be able to shoot them anymore."

"Yes, nullsec has problems. Changes to fix those problems need to be in nullsec, though."

Really? Both of those suggestions are so utterly unlike Ripard's usual analytical and sensible self that I have to wonder if he is presenting himself this way in an effort to pander to the carebear masses of highsec. If you are doing that, Ripard, then you're making a huge mistake: I think that you could very well have swept up the election with your established following, and whoring yourself out to the masses who hardly even bother to vote only makes you look like the world's biggest tit.

Wow. Those answers exceeded my expectations both in length and quality, as well as providing food for thought and the seeds of a tactic or two. I'm much obliged and very impressed. (And oddly charmed by Garth. Yes, I'm having my head looked at. :) )

And grateful, bearing in mind there's at least one other type of player who can be found in hisec, beyond the newbies, the PVE grinders, and the gankers: people and groups whose excursions into the Great Game have gone south on them. Groups whose wormhole got raided and cleared out; groups that got plowed under in null and no longer have a place in the Blue Donut; people who tried to make a go of it in lowsec or NPC null and got their heads handed to them; and the like. Hisec is a good place for them to recover, regroup, and recruit; if there's nowhere for them to go, then like you said, their only realistic option may be to leave New Eden entirely. As far as I can tell, it's in CCP's interest to make sure they have a place to get their feet back under them and stay in the game (at the various meta levels of "game").

You won't have as many miners to shoot because they will simply up and leave. I'm not saying "lol buff hisec", hell I'd advocate a nerf to the amount of money made through ice mining, the ultimate lazy mine. You need to entice who you can to low and null, some people just want to play casually, and hisec let's them do that. It's the 60 hulks with 7 orca support that should be moved to null.

Currently there is less volume of mining happening in the whole of low sec than there is some systems of high sec. If even a third of miners moved out of high and a third quit, it would be a wild success.

Ask yourself, "do I want low/null fixed?".

What will happen if null sec income is buffed? Null sec will gain the ability to buy more stuff relative to high sec players. In other words, hi sec will be nerfed through the inflationary effect of null sec players having more isk to play with. But what if CCP implements isk sinks to counteract the inflation? Well, out of whose pockets will the isk come? Even if the sinks are implemented to affect everyone equally, it will be a net nerf to high sec, since implementing one targeted at null players would defeat the very purpose of the null buffs in the first place!

Because at the end of the day, fixing low/null requires changes that will cause people to unsub. The idea that you can fix the risk/reward balance between high/everywhere else without nerfing hisec is an inability to understand the nature of EVE.
