I don't really drink much anymore, but I do enjoy the occasional single malt, like Highland Park, or better yet Glennmorangie. Got a few 18 year bottles stashed away.

For me its more about the experience of a good single malt. The way it changes on your palate, the way it finishes. I typically have one, maybe two single pours in a Glencairn glass in the evening. More than that at one time is a waste.

Those are two I have yet to try, but they'll go on the list too.

Be careful in Pulsar systems, you might get Pod Flu.

The 16 year Lagavulin is very fine, but there are matches for it in quality. I also have a fondness for Bunnahabhain, Macallan, and Laphroaig. My day-to-day tipple is Dalwhinnie, which is a very centrally-balanced whisky.

I'm hoping you use Wine Preserver on it, or the oxygen will get to it eventually.

I've found the Macallan's to be hit and miss for me (as for the Laphroaigs). Macallan 12 I didn't like but 15 and 18 are very nice indeed. Macallan 18 is similar enough to Lagavulin Distiller's Edition that I tend to lean toward it instead (~ $60 less to boot).

Laphroaig: 10yo Quarter Cask is good but I haven't tried their main whisky yet.

I'll have to add Bunnahabhain to my "try" list as I've heard about it but not yet had the opportunity.
I do. And the family is large enough and active enough that I'm not going to be sitting on it all that long. More weddings and births than deaths, fortunately. Blink

Maccallan 12 is 'Meh - OK' by me; I much prefer the 15, and own a fifth - I will buy more when that is gone. Haven't tried the 18 yet, must add it to the list.

Bunnahabhain 12 is a maked contrast to the heavy, peatier malts. It's light and airy, and has a long finish. I've got my sights set on some Bunnahabhain 18, but haven't gotten around to acquiring any yet.

Well spotted, but I very much doubt that the piccy is of the commentard.

I reread my phrasing and realize I was probably unclear in my pronoun use. Macallan 18 is definitely worth trying, and like Lagavulin Distiller's is finished in Sherry casks. Mac 18 costs ~ $160 and the Lagavulin DE costs ~ $110. Both have heavy smoke controlled by the sherry finish. But I'd happily recommend either.

I'm glad your family has more happy occasions than sad. May it continue to be so.

Watching the Iditarod finish, and I wanted a treat whilst waiting - Uncorked by newly acquired bottle of 15-year Dalwhinnie DE. Double cask-aged, darker and more rich than the usual. Very nice, but maybe a bit too much sherry?

Glemorangie was the first single malt i ever tasted yrars ago and to be honest i tasted alot of single malts that one still has something special

Glemorangie was the first single malt i ever tasted yrars ago and to be honest i tasted alot of single malts that one still has something special


I just recently had a tasting of the generally available Glenmorangie range (10, 12yo sherry, 12yo port) and they were all fine specimens. I think I'd agree that there was more going on with the original 10yo. It's a good every-day single malt.

Be careful in Pulsar systems, you might get Pod Flu.

Oddly enough, though I've tasted the Glenmorangie, I don't recall it well. That's another bottle sitting on my mother's bar - Will have to sample again.

Just too much sherry, which creates an almost 'over ripe' flavor, completely dominating the distinctive sweet/vanilla/heather/citrus lead, though the smoke and peat do manage to peek out from under the sherry at the end.

Not an improvement, and I regret the purchase. My earlier comment on this dram was colored by the fact that I was distracted. What?

Yes, I'm coming to the conclusion that many of these Distiller's Edition offerings are gimmicks to pump the price. Diageo isn't the juggernaut it is for no reason.

Indeed.

Though I will note that the Laguvalin DE is a welcome companion to the Laguvalin family. In that bottling, they got things right.





Edit:
I should note that the Dalwhinnie DE that I am down-grading is the 2005 bottling, and my comments apply only to that edition. Other editions may be superior - I wouldn't know.
