I couldn't find a discussion of this anywhere but maybe I just didn't search for the right terms.

Proposal:
Each ship's sensors are subject to interference due to the presence of other ships in the vicinity.
Larger ships produce more interference.

Once interference exceeds a threshold, it begins to adversely affect the ship's locking time and range.
Different ships would tolerate varying amounts of interference.

This mechanic was implemented in Perpetuum with imo great success.

p.s. an ant-blob mechanic would also be awesome Twisted

I think this was the general idea behind the target breaker mod, but noone seems to use it?

edit: but an anti-blob thing without requiring a module is just nerfing having friends which is bad

Need to save a structure? Drop a bunch of supers on it. Now the enemy can't lock you past 2km.
Want to fight 400 vs 400? Everyone brings smartbombing battleships or FoF missiles.
Tidi? Enjoy 1 hour locking times.

Hell, it's actually a mechanic that might help blobs. It makes it so you can't engage from range against bigger blobs.

Just seems like it makes fights more painful then they already are.

Man, I really wish there was a section of the forums just for posting things like feature requests and ideas. Then they wouldn't clutter up GD.

If only...

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

'people in your fleet'

would be the way to reduce it. Though at that point, you have trouble with people having lots and lots of small fleets.

How old before posting is "necroing" ?

Anyway, since all modules now in game have stacking penalties, that idea could be used on targeting sensors.
For each ship that uses a particular type above 1, it becomes harder for each following lock to work, so if 1 each of Grav, Lader, Mag and Radar lock on, no penalty, but if 4 Caldari ships using Grav lock on, it makes the target more "fuzzy" and harder to or gives that ship a sig bonus, whatever. Just that say the 8th Ship trying to lock might either take a very long time or might have to get closer, or have boost running.

There is already a Target Spectrum Breaker module that does something similar, maybe they could expand on that class of concept?

I'm surprised I've never heard of Battleships being used to courier things with a Breaker fitted. Activated just out of gate cloak in hisec, you'd think it would spoof enough gank Tornado's to make a gank attempt a major failure every single time.

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

The Blob problem is more related to SOV then to fleet warefare itself...

If they are 1000 ships really close to each other, 30 Stealth bombers could blow them to smithereens...

The best way to prevent this blobs becoming so large, is to give small alliances space in the game, so more people would join smaller groups then the bigger ones.

Pleas Give suport to THIS
