stowed / disengaged / secured... what ever the right term is should the turrets and launchers be stowed while the ship is in station much like they are stowed while the ship is in warp. I'm sure Scottie the dock manager wouldn't want some guys megapulses going off accidentally while in the station.

just a random thought

They're being maintained. Usually the station is invulnerable as well.

EVE isn't really big on realism like why the station can fit 100 active battleships for no charge each in a room large enough to stow a Carrier, the same room used for Frigates. My theory, it is a holographic display extending a couple meters around your "balcony".

But really CCP probably just wants you to see the cool guns.

I don't see any maintenance bots or mechanics. That would be pretty awesome though to see your ship being maintained while in the hangar.

I can just imagine it. Hundreds of Minmatar on scaffolds with buckets and rags washing my Harbinger.

If they slack off I start ship spinning.

Because its a game. That would be a lot of work for the art team, and for little gain. Plus Eve isn't really about realism, I mean we use "submarine" style physics. Plus another oddity is how can stations hold 1000s of assembled ships when the stations are relatively small in comparison.

wouldnt be any work for the art team. they would use the same animations that they use when the ship is in warp. you could probably use the same lines of code for when the ship is in warp. just add a line

if ship is in warp OR station then run stow animation.

obviously there has to be a compromise between realism and gameplay but also anything thing that adds immersion will add to the role you play in the mmoRpg.

also dont want to give the impression that im upset. like i said just a random thought.

They are gagged open in station for the safety of personnel performing maintenance on the turrets and turret hatch systems.

Modern fighter jets have "weight off wheels" conditions that are monitored by the weapons systems to prevent firing while on the ground.

It's feasible that such conditions exist in stations, and that the turrets are maintained in a "maintenance position".

your in a three densional area(4 if you count space-time) just like a submarine, of course they use that type of physics.

a flat surface beneath us spoils our perception of space-THERE'S NO UP OR DOWN!
