Can anyone help my POS to not asplode my non-corp friend?

Hi all,

OK... I've never done this before... (though somebody in the corp will have done, so if nobody helps it's no biggy, but you might save us some time).

One of my corpmates bought a carrier pilot character which he was using in FW in a different corp. He is planning on leaving that corp and joining the main one but he has a 24-hour wait to leave the other corp and wants to bring the character into the WH today.

Presumably if he tries warping to the POS while not in corp he's going to die in a fire.

I'm vaguely aware of a password situation with POS shields... will giving him the password make it safe for him to warp in?

tl;dr - want to get a non corpie into our WH pos without him being killed by the POS, pls help.

TIA

Password will not stop you getting shot by the POS - just means he can warp into the FF directly instead of bounce off it - he'll be safe inside it but the moment he pokes his head out (other than warping off) it will light him up. Also if he leaves any ships floating inside the forcefield they are likely to get ejected from the FF at some point and shot at so any ships he leaves inside should be neutralised by someone in the same corp as the POS by boarding them.

You can set the POS to only shoot people below a certain standing and set your corp to be a higher standing than that to his corp (this does NOT work for individual characters) but I don't reccomend this if hes in a corp with other people that are unknown to you.

If your worried about it, even after setting standings, then online max ewar - neuts, ecm, points, and offline guns as a temporary measure - I don't really reccomend having a POS online with no damage capabilities for any length of time tho.

Ah I forgot to mention, everyone in both corps are people we know in real life, there's no trust issue between the 2 corps at all, it's the same people but one is our wormhole corp and the other is our FW corp. The other corp is already set to max standing to this one.

Make him wait the 24 hour timer, problem solved.

On his way thru lowsec in an interceptor, he got smartbombed to death by a Panther sitting on a gate.

He was carrying a Gallente Dreadnought skillbook amongst others.

He finally made it to our WH system, warped to the POS in a shuttle, with only a few million in skillbooks this time (we thought we'd made sure the POS was set to not shoot him)... bounced off the pos shield, sat around chatting, and his shuttle was killed by the POS guns.

Bugger.

if he has the right pw it will let him in the POS (pos settings determine if he will get shot, for example you can set him +10 and then set the POS to not shoot +10)

POS's dont ever pod without a POS gunner.

POS passwords now persist through log-off / system change since a recent patch.

Just a side note but, even if you have the POS set correctly, always assume it will get a bug up its ass and shoot him anyway. AFAIK the only way to solve this is a complex ritual sacrifice to Bob invloving several corpses and a few units of livestock.

Bolded is completely wrong. The standing settings in POS management ONLY apply to corp standings. That is to say, if you set corp X +10 and then set pos not to aggress +10 standing then everyone in corp X will be safe. If you set pilot Y to +10 the POS will still shoot him. Corp to corp standing works. Corp to individual standing does not....unless they changed it which I highly doubt.

If your corp mate had to move into the wormhole on the day you mentioned and couldn't wait the 24 hours wait period to be accepted into the WH corp, then why didn't he just warp to a safe spot in your wormhole and either cloak up or log off?

There was no need for him to go straight to the POS until he was accepted into the corp, would have saved you alot of POS headaches and your friend a killmail as well.

the pos standings dont even work. your only safe bet is just give him the password and as long as he is inside the FF hell be safe. His ships will be safe even unpiloted as long as they dont change passwords.

but really the stuff about standings is silly. Many occasions the POS ai becomes self aware and blows up people just because.

This is entirely correct. These standing settings work fine, I've squatted next to someone else's POS for months getting to grips with lowsec.

The POS AI Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line March 18th, 2013. Human decisions are removed from strategic POS defense. POS AI begins to learn at a geometric rate.

It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, March 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

The POS fights back.

Not to mention he is gonna have to dock somewhere to join the corp. So why even rush to get in.
