Yeah, well, basically, i've been afk for almost a year now, before i went afk i started trying to pvp and mostly used a Rifter then, with MSE and 150mm or 200mm guns. From what I've seen so far, there've been a looot of changes in ships, and i am curious as what ships (especially t1 frigates) are currently being flown.

I want to enlist into factional warfare, since it looks like a good opportunity to learn pvp for me, and need some good ships to bring into the heat of battle that won't explode to the first guy who bumps it.

I have Minmatar Frig at V, Gallente and Amarr Frig at IV, can use small projectiles and lasers at tech 2. I have perfect fitting skills, can both shield and armortank, decent navigations, and - except for tracking disruption - pretty nice ewar skills.

And i'd like to keep the pricetag down, at least for the first phase of 'Learning the ropes'.

Here's 2 fits i used when i was playing earlier:

200mm Autocannons
Medium Shield Extender II
Afterburner II
warpscrambler
damagecontrol II
nanofiber internal bla II
power diagnostics II

2x extender rig
anti em rig

and

150mm Autocannons
Medium Shield Extender II
Afterburner II
warpscrambler
damagecontrol II
nanofiber internal bla II
Gyrostab II

last one had more pewpew but less tank. Back in the day they seemed to work for me.

Thanks!

The Rifter has definitely taken a kick from the top spot, if you're going for a fast shield setup the Slasher will serve you better with significantly better speed and 4 midslots for better tackle and same bonus/turrets.

Rifter is dead. Go for Kiting-Caldari or Brawling-Gallente.

I laugh at any Rifter that wants to fight my Merlin or Incursus

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

If you are looking to get some knowledge into what frigate setups are good, EFT found here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=24359&find=unread is a good thing to have and also browse some killboards and look at peoples losses, preferable the top pilots since they will be more likely to fly good/useful setups.

If you are looking at eve-kills FW board you will only see the top players that are not in an alliance however so looking up the big entities in FW and browsing their respective kiillboards is a pretty sure way to get some ideas for setups.

edit: chiming in with the posters above to say that yes, the rifter has been thoroughly de-throned as the frigate of choice.

Thx all so far,

I've decided on trying out the Rifter first, flying it in a cheap armor version:

[Rifter, Armor Rift]
Small 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Counterbalanced Weapon Mounts I

Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator

150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
E5 Prototype Energy Vampire

Small Projectile Ambit Extension I
Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I
Small Projectile Ambit Extension I

Basically, I'm totally screwed once someone pulls range on me and fights there, and i'm also often screwed when another close-brawler warps on into me. Successes so far have been though: A long enduring fight with a Incursus in which i mismanaged after the 4th or 5th wave of recalled drones, a long enduring battle with the new Gallente Destroyer in which i lost when someone else warped in and it was a 2v1 situation --- yeah i'd say these are successes because i know if i'd been piloting better i coulda killed this guys --- and a 1v1 kill vs a Dramiel, in which case i have to be fair and state that he was shooting EMP without drones out, and it's been close though. Structure without damagecontrol :)

So, since i now know that the rifter is really not the best solution for my goals, i'm looking at other minmatar frigates for now, maybe gallente though i don't have hybrid skills, and i don't have missile skills yet. Amarr might be good, but i didn't learn the controlled burst skill back in time, so i have some real huge capacitor issues atm. Also notable are my terrible ewar skills regarding TD and SD, ECM is fine.

The goal for later on would probably 'feel comfortable flying a Dramiel', however i still need to find a cheap version of it that's actually competitive to learn roughly how to fly and get a feeling of what it could probably engage and achieve.
Also interesting for me are the Ewar frigs, although their t2 counterparts seem lacking and not much better, maybe even worse than the t1s. So, anything nice about Vigil, Maulus, Griffin, Crucifier?

Have you thought about moving up to destroyers, specifically the thrasher? Seems like your skills best point that way since as you've found out the rifter is now almost always a free kill for a competent pilot.

If you are intent on staying in frigs, the slasher may be an option though I have found them pretty fragile so you have to pick your targets carefully. Some of my corpmates have had good success with the tormentor and that may be a possibility also.

Too bad you don't have hybrids since IMO the best t1 frigates atm all use them: Merlin, Atron, Incursus, and Tristan. I excluded the kitey condor since many people will just avoid fighting them and you need either TD or SD to make that fit work well.

well, i did step up from Rifter to Firetail now, i'm flying it in a dualprop, MSE, Scram setup. Works kinda well for now, and i hope i can adapt this pattern onto a dramiel later on.

For small gangs in frig / destroyer size i chose a Thrasher without tank or point, so far the times i have been shot i was able to warp away, and i also get a couple of kills in it.

Just a feq questions regarding my firetail, like fitting adjustments etc:

[Republic Fleet Firetail, DualProp]
Pseudoelectron Containment Field I
Micro Auxiliary Power Core II
Gyrostabilizer II

Medium Shield Extender II
1MN Afterburner II
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

200mm AutoCannon II, Hail S
[empty high slot]
200mm AutoCannon II, Hail S

Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I

It requires a 3% CPU implant, else i couldn't fit a TechII MSE.
I chose two extender rigs, cause they help me fighting enemies that don't shoot EM as well as vs em.
My MWD speed is 3400m/s, 4800m/s overheated, and the dps is at ~150~160.
Any advices on what to change, make better?
Any advices on what ships i can engage at will, which will put up a good fight and which to stay away from?

I literally just let a single sad tear run down my face as I read this thread about how the Rifter sucks. I'm not saying it's not true now but it still makes me sad in both my soul and my penis area.

except for it's inferior fitting and the missing lowslot. I really ******* love the firetail as posted above, and i have yet to craft a slasher that can do the same.

Edit: And yes, it's a shame what happened (or didn't happen) to the rifter. But alas, the Firetail will be the Rifter-On-Crack soon, yeeeeey
