I really need Eve to be dying.

I can't even articulate why, but...but...gahhhhh why won't you die?

500k subscribers sounds certainly better than 500k accounts but its probably accounts.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

What exactly constitutes a subscriber? If a pay for 3 accounts am I 3 subscribers? If so what is the number of actual paying players excluding their alt accounts? Is PLEX figured into those numbers?

You have 3 subscriptions. The record is the total number of subscriptions.

You just earned 6.5 ISK, hooray!

Subscribers are paid (PLEX or otherwise) accounts; there are about 5 million EVE accounts. Most of them, obviously, are inactive.

That's a lot of snowflakes...

500K subs?
Yes? And? It's about the same PCUs we had the last time TQ sat at 400k+ subscribers. So where's the BS?

Good. Wasting time on trying to explain why black is white just makes you look silly. But then, so does posting things that look like rebuttals when they're actually not.

What figures are you talking about? The PCUs? We have them already. The subscription numbers? We have those too, fresh of the presses. Historical figures? Have them… and without much reason to assume that the subscriber behaviour has changed in the meantime, we have all we need.

What is it you're after, really?

What we are after is the historical record of TQ subscribers. In other words, are TQ subscriptions growing, or not? Also is the player base for TQ growing, or not?

As CCP is not releasing these numbers it seems that they would cast the current game activity in a poor light if they did. They published the one number that made it look like the game was doing well, and hid all the ones that would make it look bad.

Think you are massively :tinfoil: here.

CCP have always used the same metric for subscribers, which is to say it excludes trial accounts.

The reason PCU is the same now as at 400k is because 500k includes paying customers (only) on Serenity.

Welcome to corporate communication.

But yes, by the looks of it, TQ subscriber numbers are up significantly, roughly to where they were during the heydays of early 2011.

You can probably run a ballpark figure for TQ, based on the PCU avg of TQ vs Serenity (since those 500K reflects the numbers that are currently subscribed).
It should correlate closely to the actual per server split which CCP isn't disclosing atm.

actually you cant, because TQ is spread over basicly the whole world (lots of timezones) while serenety is only spread over 2 (or 3?) timezones in china, so their subscription to PCU ratio is way different to TQ.

The PCU is near a record. And its up despite the war on bots. The last PCU record was set when bots were far more rampant than now, and were staying on en-mass 23/7. Its quite likely we have broken the record for peak concurrent Valid subscriptions.

Also the weekly PCU for Serenity is 25% of TQ, so the 400K / 100k split seems about right.

Not when you average it over 24h or even weekly/monthly.
You're after a reasonable ballpark figure, not accuracy to 3 decimal places.

ah, yes if you take the weekly average then it should be comparable

So as of 21st february taken from http://eve-offline.net/
TQ weekly avg : ~36.800
SR weekly avg : ~7.800

so serenity is actually only about 17.5% of the whole population, or about 87.5K subscribers, this would put TQ at 412.500 subs :)

Surveys ask about it, but I have never seen any numbers on it being published. The best guesstimates anyone has been able to offer is ~2 accounts per person, but that was eons ago and good luck not just finding the thread,

There isin Dr E's last QEN a statement that Eve averages 2 characters per account... don't know if thatwas what you were remembering?

No, that was based on actual data they could easily pull from the servers. I'm thinking about a guesstimate someone did across a couple of NPC and player corps.
