Im sorta new to EVE, I've been on and off for 2 years with not very much play time. I have around 6M skill points. Im caldari with a drake tank and a raven navy issue, which i bought with selling a plex.

My question is; what skills should i start researching if my desired play style is to venture deep into enemy territory and lurk. Mostly solo or with a very small fleet, with 1 or 2 of my buds. Good burst dps as opposed to sustained dps. Decent survivability with emphasis on escaping as opposed to tanking and fighting enemies.

I was thinking marauder class?... Golem. Or stealth bomber class? (I dont really know the differences between the two). What about heavy assualt ships?

Thanks

You a a long way from being able to effectively able to do what you are wanting to do, especially solo.
You really need to join a PVP corp and follow their lead.

Yes I am an alt. I see no reason to make it easy for bullies and greifers

I think you are going to loose a lot of very expensive ships very quickly.

Please come to Heild or Adirain & bring several Marauders & we will demonstrate this to you.

Alternatively buy yourself a bunch of t1 frigates and go have some fun learning how to pvp whilst spending about 1% of the amount of isk you will lose if you try to PvP in BC's, BS's or Marauders with only 6 million SP.

Ya, since making this thread I read the evelopedia and learned marauders are very expensive PVE ships for level 4s. So, when I have more skillpoints and have much more money, I could opt for a Black ops BS? Or are they just as expensive? What about stealth bombers?

DO NOT start with such expensive stuff if you have no clue about what you are doing PvP wise.

Specially with the lurking deep behind enemy lines.

I say:

Buy a shitload of T1 frigates.
Fit them.
Set course to different low/null systems
Fight people
Loose and learn / win and learn + brag.

Move up to cruisers when you have teh knowledge and ISK to support it.

Only use T2 when you know what you are doing.

ok, so are there any ships within the destroyer, frigate hulls that are relatively cheap that are like the gameplay i described?

I hate to make this reference, but are there ships that are similar to a rogue in world of warcraft? That's kinda the play style I'm interested in. Like I said, I'm a noob, dont know much. I just wanna know which skills to invest my time with.

There are but really since you have no idea what you will be doing it isn't the wisest choice because properly fit it is minimum 50 mil a piece though its cheap you will lose a lot of them. Your best bet is find a corp that does that kind of thing and learn to do it rather then wasting the Isk. If you do want to waste it feel free to just give it away.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Sounds like you want stealth bombers, frigates that shot torpedoes ( a weapon normally reserved for battleships) and can warp while cloaked when fitted with a covert ops cloak. They find a target, uncloak hit hard with a few volleys, cloak up and hide from the retaliation.
Keep in mind they still are as easy to kill as a frigate when they are caught and even though they are much cheaper then a t2 battleship they are still quite expensive for an inexperienced player.

I would still advise doing as suggested above first and learn the basics of pvp in cheap t1 frigs and cruisers first.

^ This + Recons (though, bigger also A LOT more expensive).

As said..

Start small
Start cheap
Start with others (why try to re-invent the wheel over and over when you can learn from others).

Stealth bombers.

Yup, stealth bombers. And a friend with another stealth bomber, possibly of a different race so you have some damage type variation going on.

No, yes, and no. Marauders are for sustained PvE in very safe areas (their defenses aren't all that much better than their T1 variants), and heavy assault ships are good, but not so good that I would take them in a small fleet. With a small fleet (1 to 4 people) there's not really any combination you can take that's resistant enough to being blown up that you'll get your moneys worth before someone gets you, so in any situation I'd take an HAC out with a couple buddies I'd think twice and take a T1 cruiser instead.

So... basically your optimum here is the Stealth Bomber. Torpedo skills (which I assume you've got if you were considering a Golem), racial frig 5, and the prerequisites for the T2 cloaking device that lets you warped cloaked. That's your ultimate low-cost (well, relatively, it's going to cost you about as much as a T2-fit T1 cruiser) lurking/ganking machine.

Albeit, a viable alternative is the aforementioned T2-fit T1 cruiser. With Cruisers V and all your relevant skills high up, there are quite a few T1 cruisers which can range pretty deep without resupply, hit damned hard, work well in small groups against mixed opponents, and when you lose them eh, it's just a cruiser. My personal fave is the Vexor, but every race has good ones.

(The usual caveats of "if you take a ship into PvP, write it off before you even undock" obviously apply. There is no ship that's going to make you immune to every counter-strategy.)

Use the Golem for that work.

From the Golem ship description:

" Nevertheless, these thick-skinned, hard-hitting monsters are the perfect ships to take on long trips behind enemy lines."
