You are doing it wrong. here is how you do it.

1. Deploy sentries
2. Drop can
3. Orbit can at 500m

This way you will never be out of range of your drones.

This is so full of wrong. Gurista's BS don't do any damage at all to cruisers. Just don't be a giant signature passive shield tank. You don't even need an afterburner.
