Does anyone really play Eve with just 1 character and no alts.

I've made an alt primarily to be a neutral hauler in times of war and to handle trade and market transactions.

probably if I ever decide to fly capitals, I will get a cyno alt, but its unlikely, probably will ask a corp mate to cyno for me, after all... playing with yourself on a MMO sounds sorta idiotic to me.

But it is a fantastic way of passing the time whilst gate camping. However the FC can freak out a bit if you forget to release the push to talk switch....... Come on now, hasn't everyone done it just because an actual IRL girl is talking on teamspeak?

Anyone? No? Me either. Was just kidding. like i would do that.

Yes, one character and no alts here, though I don't often have to solo since my corpmates are usually keen to throw down. Wouldn't know what to do with an alt even if I had the ISK to pay for it.

Do PI alts (on the same account) count?

<---1 account. this is an MMO. multiple accounts are for people who can't make friends, or have bad corpmates.

You under estimate the value of an alt!

Been playing for more years than I care to admit, and I've multiboxed with multiple accounts with multiple alts. Not anymore. To me it's just not cost-effective these days when you can just buy some plex and be an instant multi-billionaire for less money than it would cost to pay the monthly subscription fees to skill up your army of alts high enough that they can start bringing in the isk themselves. On this account I have the alt spaces filled but I built them just because I like creating interesting portraits. Never used 'em that I can recall.
I get into PvP and wardecs with my corpies just fine with one character and I have plenty of isk whenever I need it.

I do. I wish there were some high-end things I could invest my money into that would be fun. Currently I'm waiting on the training to do lvl 5 missions in a Carrier, but no idea what ill do with my money after that besides trying to do a solo POS.

I have a mining alt, I did him just because.. I wanted an account for mining and one for PVE. I never thought about PVP AT ALL before like... 2 weeks ago..

and so far, I haven't been impressed.. probably because I can't seem to find anything else than strategic cruisers ratting the lowsec....

My stubborn arse insists on viewing alts and PLEX as cheating (not that I'm against cheating). Most if not all tasks that you would use an Alt for can be completed much more enjoyably for all parties using some apt social skills. As for PLEX, in my case much easier to acquire a PLEX using rl finances vs those in eve, so PLEXing would remove some of the much-loved risk from the game for me.

I remember an article on The Mittani blog that said something about this. Something along the lines of "Requiring people to play alts for supercaps is a terrible gameplay design, but a great way to force players to pay more money" It was in less words though.

Or the quote, "CCP is less inclined to bring in new players, and more to entice older players into buying more accounts".

Honestly, almost nobody plays an MMO with one character, but the majority play with one account. In EVE however, I'd venture a guess that a good 30-40% of the playerbase have alt accounts.

I don't. Probably never will. But having simple alts on one account still has its uses.

I do see the outrages number of alt accounts as a bit of a cancer, and one of the reasons I can't take this game seriously. I'm sure most disagree with me though, as I'm sure CCP does.

Nope, I wouldn't be able to live without my 4 alt accounts, or at the very least be able to live in null as I do now.

One account is my main and a Jita alt, the second is another combat and leadership alt, the third a collection of OOC cynos and hictors, and the fourth my supercarrier and a freighter/JF character.

I could probably get by with just my main and my mothership, but I really see no reason not to greatly expand what I'm capable of with more alts. They function pretty much the same as a force multiplier, and I'm not one to forgo an obvious advantage in a game like this.

Just wondering, do you see that as a joke? Or at the least bit ******** on any level? Cause I feel like a large margin of people would.

Edit: I'm asking if you see the system as a joke. What you are required to do to play the way you want.

Well what type of MMO? Some people play EvE-Online as an MMO-RPG with a single character and that is fine. However, some of us prefer to play EvE-Online as an MMO-RTS. My coporation IS my character. Don't you think each player should decide for himself how he wishes to play the game? It is a sandbox after all.

Also having multiple accounts does not preclude you from making friends. It actually levels the playing field so a small group of friends can take on much larger organizations because each player has many accounts. I see that as a good thing in my opinion.
