I'm guessing CCP will be eating the 10k own3d is reneging on, so good for you but really this should've been sorted months ago.

You may have missed the news article explaining that Own3d owes a lot of people money but the explanation is likely in the OP. Hope that helps.

No, I don't think it does.

It doesn't matter who is in the wrong. It's CCPs name at the top of the contest page and it's CCP who took the fees. It is CCP that will suffer if these prizes are not awarded.

Let's be real, here... CCP won't "suffer" unless a class action lawsuit is filed against them as a result of what appears to be either shady business practices or supremely stupid business decisions.

Fortunately it's a moot point now.

The prizes are being awarded by CCP.

I'm very sorry they got stuck with an unexpected 10K expenditure, and I hope that it will not affect their decisions regarding future open tournaments... but on the other hand I am very happy for the prize winners.

I knew CCP would take care of the issue, my only concern was how long it would take due to legal considerations. I'm glad it's finally sorted (or will be in the next couple of weeks).

Sadly, corporate entities are more akin to Dung Beetles than flies. And you know what you need to catch them, don't you?

I'm going to guess based on your money-centric viewpoint and the fact that you only think of the legal ramifications that you are American and young.

There are many more ways that a company can commit corporate suicide than that. Some of which I and others have touched on in this thread. CCP understands this and so we have the post from Dolan.

In any case, It's nice to see that a good poke in the forum can still get a company motivated to do the right thing.

Well done.

Taking credit for CCP doing what they would likely have done anyway is not always easy. Smile

It might have been a little more convincing if the thread in question was a little more than 5 pages though. Big smile

I think the fact that CCP has learned to not let a thread become a festering sore in it's side to be picked up by the gaming media is the convincing thing. This is a positive step for them to acknowledge that threadnaught damage control is inefficient and painful. To look beyond today and see the ramifications of their actions for the future.

I am pleased to see them doing this finally after many well documented and humiliating lessons.

This five page thread has saved us all. Did you read about Dung Beetles yet? They're nature's heroes as well as galactic navigators.

An announcement has been made here regarding the prizes for the New Eden Open.

We at CCP are saddened by the closing of Own3d and the content they streamed to gamers worldwide will be greatly missed. We had partnered with them to bring the New Eden Open to the EVE Online Community and to Own3d’s stream viewers, and we feel that it is only right for CCP to ensure that the unfortunate closing of Own3d does not affect the prizes that the winners worked so hard to earn. We appreciate your patience while we at CCP work out some of the finer details in delivering these prizes. Winners should look to receive an email containing information on their cash prizes within the next 10-14 business days.

In other news, every participant in the New Eden Open should expect to receive their unique in-game shirts with the release of our summer expansion. We apologize for the long wait, our teams have been very busy with improvements to EVE Online and we want to ensure that the prizes we deliver are given the development time they need to meet both player and developer standards.

Not wishing to make liars of CCP Dolan, but that was on the 6th February. Simple maths gives today as the 14th business day since that announcement. It has sadly passed without receipt of any email or prize. Please, if you promise a day to do something to a business customer don't let it slide past without further communication; this leads your customers to the conclusion that you have no business integrity or are incapable of honouring your commitment.

Well I'm hoping that CCP was just so busy with 1.1 that this slipped in their calendar - but it would have been polite to at least let us know if this was the case. Otherwise, your argument looks better than mine at this juncture Sad

That is (sadly) standard CCP (lack off) communications (behavior).

There was once a Fanfest competition, some people won something then it took CCP almost 80 days to actually deliver the prizes. In the end they did deliver, just took them quite a while to do so and us forum folks to keep bumping the thread back onto the front page.

Maybe it's a 'we told you we would take care of this, what more can we write/say then what we did before?' thing. What?
