It's still a record of a sort - that old PCU record was logged during the final of the Alliance Tournament, IIRC. Today is just... a Sunday. No particular special event has occurred today, other than it being a few months after a spaceships focused, PvP-promoting expansion.

Well yes. It's hard to estimate how much an AT final is worth.

What I do know is that since Retributions, our Fridays (which have historically been the lowest-populated days in the week) have PCU numbers that rival what we'd see on pre-Retribution Sundays (which have historically been the highest-populated days in the week). Records are nice and all, but that is a change that really matters.

So EVE is dying.

More likely it's the result of a new generation. Raised by the Internet, they live on the Internet. The future rulers of this world.

what about setting a standard muster window, like... 1 hour prior to downtime every day

one of those things that just becomes part of the game culture... "don't trust anyone, mind the decimal places when you buy stuff, and oh--everyone logs on during the 1 hour before downtime, it's sort of a record breaker thing. or they stay logged in until downtime kicks them off."

Well simply the servers cant take it.
They are melting and dying and with them EVE.
Yes so many people are logging in and playing it is physically killing the game in real life.
Maybe CCP should look into active LN2 hyper coolers to help increase resistance to the player base thermal damage attacks.

CCP just redid the whole hardware side i think 3-4 years ago when the i think moved offices? maybe someone has a picture or two of the work they did. it was actually pretty nice job.

Eve is dying so hard it's come back from the other side and is now zombie-EVE, growing stronger and consuming all.

Or something.

That metaphor kind of ran away from me there.

It's really nice to see so many of you enjoying EVE these days! Everyone in the office is really happy about these numbers and we're all focused on doing as much cool stuff as possible to keep the momentum going! :)

Good times.

We may not break it but considering it was becoming pretty hard to even break the 54k players count on a Sunday just over a year ago after crucible was released it certainly looks like Eve is heading in the right direction again. And I think balancing the low end hulls is the major contributor to this

Bravo CCP :)

I'm really pleased with the ever increasing PCU numbers and fully expect the record to be broken within the next 6 weeks (I know, I'm wildly extrapolating, not taking into consideration other game releases and so on ... but I'm an optimist!).

My understanding is that the EVE Offline PCU figures, as of 10th January, also include our DUST brethren, following the migration to TQ and the open beta. Will this detract from the accomplishement when the PCU record does eventually fall?

Let's hope that CCP secret mystery theme for the summer expansion is as big a success as Retribution.
