wondering about the commissioned officer boxed edition...

A friend of mine just gave me an unopened Commissioned Officer edition of the game (still tightly wrapped and all). I'm wondering if it's worth it to use the CO edition or not. I currently have a trial version of the game, and will likely switch over to subscription sometime soon. Can I use the CO edition to upgrade my trial version to the full game, or do I need to make a new account for that?

According to this blog, you need to make a new account for the CO edition. Shouldn't be a problem, since your trial character can't have that many skillpoints. You can just email the ISK and create private item-exchange contracts for the ships and gear you've accumulated - it's not going to be a problem transferring things over.

After you create your account you can activate it to full using the CD key. I believe the CD key is incompatible with the buddy invites, and perhaps any "activate with PLEX" deals CCP may have, so compare those offers with the stuff you get in the CO edition, and decide.

I believe what you get in the CO edition is an implant that will make you train skills faster for the first few days / month.

Trials cant use contracts so he cant contract them over directly. He has to use the trade feature and find a trustworthy 3rd party or seocnd machine to do so as you cant have two clients open if one of them is a trial.

You read it wrong. Commissioned Officer Edition can be used to upgrade an existing trial to a full account.

Also, transferring things from a trial account is somewhat problematic. As J'Poll already pointed out, trial accounts can't use contracts and assistance of a trusted 3rd party would be required. Trials also can't send ISK at all, so it would have to be converted into assets of some kind first.

Commissioned Officer Edition also is eligible for buddy program rewards. So the OP could get the benefits of both, but the buddy program would require starting a new account, of course.

Your whole post is very misleading. Please refrain from giving advice when you have no idea what you are talking about.
