AFK Fleet Boss

As PVP usually happens in a moments notice, we like to have fleets up to make the difference between a kill and a loss.

However in our experience we notice that players go AFK on a regular basis, and this includes the most important link in the chain, the fleet boss.

I would like to suggest a voting system within fleet to remove an afk fleet boss, what are your views on this guys?

FC shouldn't be afking without making provisions for something else. If we're in situations where I need fleet warps, I'll promote somebody to wing/fleet while I'm afk, and then demote when I come back.

Voting system would be fine, but relatively un-needed I think.

We've had the same issue and what happens is that a second fleet is created and those who are interested in whats going on/not afk, join that one and a husk of the old fleet is left behind, and usually still up in fleet finder.

Obviously this can be solved by training those who make fleets, personally I always try to delegate as much as possible by setting fleet/wing commanders to people with experience setting up a fleet, so that if I were to go AFK they can invite and move people around. The (minor) problem with moving someone to fleet/wing command for the sake of access delegation is that it may break boosters, or atleast remove boosters from that person.

I think sometimes people go AFK for what would've been a little while and something comes up in RL that takes longer than expected, also when you pass on boss role if that other person were to go away you're not getting boss role back when you're back yourself.. o\

That being said, it would be nice with a role that can be granted to any member that is essentially a fleet officer, which would have as much access as the fleet commander role but still positioned elsewhere in the fleet. This role could also be able to make tags if required.

TLDR; I agree that this could be made easier with a new relatively minor feature.

I can see a Titan fleet FC going for a bathroom trip, coming back and discover that some spies voted him down, warped everybody into a trap and his whole fleet is now sparking pixels in the void.

However it is indeed a interesting proposal, maybe solving a problema and giving way to interesting new ways to wage war :) . However it is still to be determined how much of a problem is this. Honestly if a FC cannot delegate while away, stop putting him FC.

The world needs you to stop being boring!

A fleet boss going afk is more of a problem of that fleet boss. Teach your guys to hand over fleet boss if they go afk.
Otherwise, just create a new fleet. CCP has more important stuff to fix then this imho.

agreed i think your trying to overcomplicate what is a very simple solution..... just start a new fleet and shout at the dude when he returns, if you feel very strongly about the matter reinforce his POS, it usually does the trick

I agree, it would take just as long or probably longer to vote a new boss in, that just creating a new fleet. This way, you know what other players are afk too.

Train your fleet bosses to hand over fleet boss when they log out so it doesn't assign fleet boss to someone who is already afk. This takes down the fleet advert until they come back and means you have an afk fleet boss. Both things suck.

I don't think it's an AFK problem, I think it's just a "fell asleep dead drunk at the keyboard" problem, I usually find that as I drool over the keyboard semi comatose, it tends to crash my pc, I get DC'd and leave fleet, problem solved.

Though to be fair, I'm not normally FC, and if I'm fleet boss, it's normally because I fell asleep dead drunk at the keyboard, everyone else has left/logged and I haven't drooled enough to dc, and I'm in k-space in an egg after levelling up again :p

Sounds like joining a new fleet would be the simplest way to work out a "vote."

Problem is its not that unusual for the fleet boss to suffer a disconnection, client crash or whatever and come back to find the game has auto assigned boss to someone who is afk.

Someone was suggesting in another thread the ability to create corp/alliance fleets (not limited to just corp players) which use roles so as well as the fleet boss anyone with the appropriate corp roles could manage parts or even all of the fleet i.e. the CEO would always be able to change the fleet regardless of who had boss on a fleet made as a corp fleet.

AFK BUTTON!, It gives command to the next one in the chain , AKA, wing 1 commander.

Bob Artis, you will be missed.
