I was just out at the Microsoft store looking at Surface Pro and they use the an internal video card, an Intel HD 4000. Reports have said that Surface Pro can play games (http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57569066-75/surface-pro-as-a-gaming-rig-its-ready-and-able/), so I took Eve on a USB stick. It failed on two fronts:

  1. Video error (same as the screen shot provided in https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2485732).
  2. Mouse was limited. It could only move across 5/8ths of the screen and I couldn't use the mouse to move the scroll bar. The pointer was out of alignment with the stylus by about 3-4 inches. It was absolutely unplayable as I couldn't even activate the check mark to accept the EULA without using tab.

Has anyone else seen the mouse issue as I described above? It seemed like it may have been a directx issue. I tested on two Surface Pro devices and got the same results.

As an aside, since I've been in the market for an ultrabook, I went to the local Best Buy and MicroCenter and had a look around... they're all using an Intel HD 4000 card or similar. A few laptops had an added video card (Intel HD 4000 & AMD or nVidia). The push for ultrabooks seemed pretty strong from most of the sales people. If integrated graphics for mobile platforms are the norm, especially as devices get smaller and tablets like the Surface Pro are more prevalent in the marketplace, wouldn't it make sense for Eve to support these devices?

it only runs properly in a maximized/window for me.
put it in window mode by dragging from the top.
then set it to default to window mode.
Bump the window bar to the top of the screen to maximize it.

Otherwise the pointer/touchscreen are way off. In a window they work ok.

Also putting out a lot of heat in "high performance" mode.. But runs there if you knock down the graphics demands a some. I doubt that it will run long on the battery though.

Did you have to update drivers on your surface out of the box?

Edit: Works fine as of Mar 30 2012 patches.
