Clever tactic or nutjob?

So I was flying through low sec in a cov ops and entered the choke system into high sec. Sure enough lots of flashies in local and a camp but mostly BCs so no biggie. I warp to gate and go through, no problem. About a minute later I get the following mail pop up from one of the campers:

Subject: I JUST SAVED YOU LIFE,LOL

is you daily through solitude today? or did you get stuck from the op the other day???

I do not recognise the pilot or the corp and so was a bit confused especially since their camp had no chance of catching a cov ops. Either he's mistaken me for someone else or he's an alt of someone I know or, and this is my suspicion, the mail was designed to trick me into possibly decloaking on the way back and they try this trick on anyone who escapes their clutches in the high sec direction.

As it happens they were still there on the way back but I slipped past them with no trouble, paying no mind to his message.

This was a new one on me, has anyone seen something similar before and does it work sometimes (cos that would be hilarious)?

it sounds more like a nutjob to be, it must be harsh not getting thoes kills.

I've starting blogging http://www.epvpc.blogspot.comĀ

Harsh not getting a covert ops kill? They don't understand the game, then. Only things I fear in my transport are smart bombs and lag/time-outs in low-sec. High-sec has actually proven more hazardous to me in my cov-ops, with all the traffic interfering with the cloak. But, YMMV. vOv

So... um... yeah!

I just keep auto reject turned on all the time.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

If it was in solitude it was likely that terrible coalition living there. There is plenty of proof on YouTube that they are terrible nothing to see here move along

Yes, it was a nutjob. I know this because he spoke to me on TS last night and he mentioned that he'd 'saved' one of my pilots from a 'horrible smartbomb death'.

As someone has mentioned, it is the terrible coalition that lives in the Gonditsa area. The nutjob in question is an alt of one the alliance members and without mentioning his name, you have asked me why I tolerate that particular nutjob. I still don't know.

EDIT: He knew about the op near solitude the other day because I had to throw him out of TS while we were doing it.

Ahh, it makes sense now. I didn't see many battleships around but I suppose it's possible he really did prevent someone from smartbombing me.

Remind me to say thank you to the nutjob when I speak to him again ;)

Back when i was robin hood (some one told me that) we used to time all kind of small ships ourselfs by warping to the gate we camped in low sec. This allowed us to smart bomb at the right time and pop goes the invisible pixel ships.
We used to do this with all types and with and without implants, we just placed an alt on the gate to start counting when they warped out to our camped gate.

So it is very probable he saved yer arse from a quick clone trip, if they have a good knowledge of how long it takes to get there from any particular gate. As for the BCs if they got some good smart bombs and there are enough of them on the gate, your covops will certainly pop.
