Whats the going rate these days?

And if the cargo is worth less that that figure, it's not worth ganking right?

Edit: assuming hisec obviously.

As low as 6 Taloses (600M) in a 0.5 system.

If it's less than twice that figure, if you're going for profit. Loot has 50% chance of dropping, so statistically you'd need to gank something which pays out 2x the worth of the ships you're using to make up for your loss.

Plus paid profit since the people won't be doing it for free.

And also they take a sec hit which they need to grind up or burn an alt for. Nowon will do that for 10 mil

Anything more than 2bil and i would be webbing with a daredevil or something.

How valuable does cargo have to be before the Obelisk is at risk in high sec? In the right place, at the right time, as little as 13m ISK.

CCP really needs to show what was in plastic wrap when the gank happens.

it was hauling something double wrapped

double wrapped cargo will not show on a cargo scan or in a killmail

Ah I see. So unless there was some devious contract fraud / intel involved, the gankers rolled a dice on the hidden cargo. It could've been worthless, but I'm sure even seemingly empty freighters are filled with 780,000 m3 of Grade A extra-virgin tears.

If somewon plastic wraps they are obviously hiding stuff that is worth ganking, if i was ganking this would make me gank them even more.

Or are a member of RFF/Push, who routinely double wrap their cargo because it's the simplest way to use in corp contracting alts for out of corp Freighters.

Why? Even sec status can be grinded back to +5 in few days.

Hmm, so what if you carry 10 packaged vindicators and 1,000,000 stacks of a single unit of tritanium?

The server would be unhappy, then flip 1,000,010 (or 1,000,001) virtual coins independently of each other.

Probability tells us that, if you were to gank enough of those, you'd get an average of 500,000 Trit and 5 Vindicators from each gank.

It should not matter. You will still have a 50%-chance of seeing those Vindis drop.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Then make it so those Vindis drop always. Problem solved!

Did you SERIOUSLY just ask why people wouldn't be doing something that is done to make money, for free?

Do you typically go out and mine minerals, and give them all away for free, because someone asked you to do it? No. You do it with the intent to make isk. In this case, it is gambling, but where you are hedging your bets, with the expectation of making at least a certain value. And sec status can be grinded back to +5 from a single gank in an hour or 2.
