Odd torpedo dmg vs NPC pirates

Hai,

I am trying to grind my sec status up in nullsec shooting angel rats. I am doing this with a hound. Now the problem is, is that if I shoot a battleship some volleys go for 2k dmg and some volleys go for 300 damage I asked in Help chat but no one could help me there.

Anyone know the answer to this how I can keep a sustained damage vs battleships.

I am shooting Angels atm, and using explosive round against them so that should be allright.

Cheers!

id imagine you are catching them while they are mwd at high speed, the torp full damage is reduced to nothing even if its a large target if their speed is high enough and i believe angels are the fastest npcs there are.

then that might the problem, I do see some battleships speed up to 800ms sometimes

That's a huge discrepancy. Only thing I can even remotely think of is if the NPCs were decelerating after their MWDs shut off, i.e. they were coasting with normal sig size at high speed.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

And is there anything I Can do about this?

Turn on the target velocity column in the overview to see if high speed is the problem. If they are moving fast, then just wait until they slow down before firing.

All NPC's have orbit ranges, some long some short, if you learn what NPC likes what orbit range, you can use that to your advantage by closing to, then the NPC wont compensate by MWDing to that range.

option 2, fit 2 webs and always get ontop of them

If you can squeeze a target painter on, it helps significantly versus Angel rats. Raising sig is very roughly equivalent to lowering their speed proportionally in the missile damage formula.

This.

As mentioned, a target painter will work, or rigor rigs if you don't need the missile range rigs. Another option is T2 cruise launchers with fury ammo and rigors + painter.

Not sure that's so viable on a Hound....

Get in a tight orbit on the BS's this will cause them to screw up their movement and effectively web them. Then stick a TP on n your golden.

It's because your targets are no longer stationary.

That is how much torpedoes are terrible.

It helps in regards to sig radius, not velocity.

Sig:
TP increase target sig.
Rigor rig decrease missile exp radius.

Velocity:
Web decrease target velocity.
Flare rig increase missile exp velocity.

These are two distinct aspects. Improving one doesn't improve the other. It does help with the end result, but only if both are lacking.

BS rats are already big, with mwd sig bloom, even bigger. TP sig bloom stacks with mwd sig bloom, making it less effective. When rat sig is already bigger than your missile exp radius, increasing it even further doesn't help much.

Why are your torps hitting for 300 dmg at times these? Is sig the problem? Or velocity?

Web decrease target velocity, but isn't useful on sb for obvious reasons.
Flare rig also helps, but there's the fitting issues.

Or you can, you know, deal with it. Pick your poison.

Things will hopefully get better once TE/TC effects hit the missiles.

Wasn't it only suggested that Tracking Disruptors would affect missiles, but even that was put off I believe.

Held back until TE/TCs are changed to affect missiles.
