Microsoft Surface pro as a gaming tablet. TLDR it should play EVE.

Ran across this interesting piece of info today while researching the Microsoft Surface Pro.

If it can play those games it should be able to play EVE with no issues. My question is how does the touch interface react with the UI in EVE? Can anyone shed some light on this from experience?

I just got an HP elitepad 900. Haven't had a chance to try loading eve on it yet.

Honestly, from playing with a full sized touchscreen, I would think the screen is just too small. The EVE UI is the single most graphically real-estate hungry thing I have ever encountered in a game, and touch screens tend to have relatively low accuracy when it comes to clicking things rapidly. Plus, right clicking? Kind've a pain in the neck to navigate those in an intuitive way. I mean, take an ittybitty screen and put up your overview with several columns and room for tags, your dscan, local, people and places, you're not going to have much screen left.

Tablets are a disease on the world. If it becomes any more prolific i'm moving to North Korea free from the devices. Of course then i won't have enough food, but its a small price to pay.

North Korea is Best Korea

The Surface Pro uses an intel processor and has direct x support, so it should at least start, but the interface would be awful.

Great device but I think touch in Eve is not an easy way to navigate the UI.

Whats great about Surface is you get a laptop and tablet in one device. So plug in the mouse and keyboard when you need it. Remove it when you need a tablet.

Thats called a x86 platform, all other tablets use a ARM based platform thus being less powerhungry and more tweakable.

Tho i support the x86 atom tablets because it will make it soooo much easier to migrate your software to it like office suites and presentations, tho i wouldnt suggest gaming on them, because a x86 CPU is 10x more powerhungry then a ARM CPU and with the internal intel HD GPU you probably will lagg playing pinball :)

Still want one tho :D

No problems playing EVE on a large Win7 touchscreen, until combat starts - then you really want the mouse and keyboard handy

The UI is designed to use as many right clicks as possible. This does not go well with touch screen. Also targeting from the overview would be a pita.

Touch interfaces are useful in specific situations only and apart from that should die a fiery death. I will continue to eat with a knife and fork, and I will not consider eating with my bare hands to be "progress".

One day we can wear a pair of glasses and gloves for controls and hook up a catheter. Then we can be real pod pilots.
