If you have a prior felony, don't screw the subway system out of their money (especially while carrying another weapon) Evil

All I can say is.... what a moron.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

That's like watching Road Wars or traffic cops where the fuzz spot someone without a seatbelt on and then proceed to find no tax, no MOT, no insurance and usually driving under the influence.

People are stupid. Long may it continue because if the general street crims get intelligent the world would be a scary place.

Honestly, seven years sounds far too lenient.

Illegal gun concealed in the Metro?

Prisons are full of much worse offenders. 7 years, for a crime in which no one was hurt, is about as heavy as you're going to ever see.

Also: Criminals are often criminals because they're not smart enogh to imagine the consequences. Smart ciminals don't get caught doing dumb crimes.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

hahahah i love it. all of that man's points of stupidity probability coincided, and thing about those is they're synergistic. I love how easy it is to not look special in public. kinda blows my mind, actually. people who draw the attention of the police are idiots

his points of stupidity probability:

passive: his record
static:
-carrying the gun,
-shoving it in his waistband,
-dressing in a way you can imagine he was dressed
-I'll bet he had a "walk"
active: jumping the toll turnstile
random: nearby cops
moral response: fleeing
physical conditioning: slow runner

that story made my day.

about his prison sentence: **** him. prison is necessary for scaring people from a young age.

"don't break the law" is difficult, impossible for most people. however "don't draw attention" is more realistic and just as effective, and for the people who can't manage that... there's prison. it's a beautiful system.

the only thing I don't agree with: providing prisoners a gym. should be replaced with libraries and programs of study, and arts & crafts. you can teach college courses and award training certificates and degrees in prison. then former inmates might look back on imprisonment as an opportunity to get ahead and get their head straight. give them something to preserve and be proud of.

allowing the general perception of prison to be a cage with food and weights is a little irresponsible.

In fact, the idea is as follows: he was carrying the gun for a reason. No, self-protection is not a valid reason. Not with an ex-convict in probation, and definitely not with an illegal weapon.

He was carrying that gun for potential crimes.

And no, I would never suggest that people should be punished by their perceived intentions. But I DO believe that he had his chance, and took a great big dump on it.

We are not talking about a parking ticket, or a tax problem. He was carrying a fully loaded .40 Smith & Wesson.

People which had problems with the law are clearly instructed to avoid trouble in the future. This ****** had a gun, avoided paying the Metro fare. Basically, he didn't give a ****, and got owned.

I refuse to believe he wasn't aware of the consecuences of being caught. He just didn't care. If his level of stupidity is such that he honestly didn't see this coming, locking him away from fellow humans is self-preservation at species level.

I have zero empathy in this case. Screw him.

it starts with money, then at some point becomes a resentful defiance of the productive public. there are a lot of factors that can't be helped on a legislative level, but I think education and job skills should be pushed on prisoners. engine or auto repair, or automobile body work. how to read, type, compose sentences and paragraphs.

if prisoners leave prison with skill to perform a $15/hr job, in this man's position they wouldn't carry a gun, they would pay the toll, they would see the benefit of making some honest money and meeting their responsibilities.

I think.

@Darius Brinn: Disagree.
There are worse people, who need locking up a lot worse than this guy and his potential, unknowable future-crimes. You can only nail him for what he did do, and prison space is both expensive and limited.

Frankly: No, I don't beleive he actually imagined that he was going to be arrested that day. I don't think he imagined he would get caught jumping turnstiles. I don't believe he imagined his 'clever' concealment place for his weaopn would be so obvious. If he had imagined any of that, he'd have done something different than what he did.

No one got hurt, so no aggravating factors. And seven years is not exactly a walk in the park. End of story.

And agreed, screw him. But only so much as he deserves to be screwed.

Edit:
@Rain:
Less about money, and more about opportunity and values and ability to plan rationally. I have had a life that provided me plenty of opportunity to turn criminal, if it were just money. I'd have been a scary-effective criminal: Large, fast, agile, strong, and - frankly - damned smart. I'd have been a scourge. Strong values and the ability to observe, determine consequences, and to plan accordingly, sent me in another direction.

Values can be taught - IF social conditions and social meddling are kept from preventing that eduction. Understanding of consequences can be taught, too - Again, IF social meddlers are kept at bay. Opportunity can be provided, IF social meddlers are redirected towards aiding that.

Some folks still won't 'get' it, but more would.

This guy should have known that catching fare jumpers is law enforcement priority 1 in NYC these days. I few years ago hurdling turnstiles was like an extreme sport. People not only did it, but did it with moves for extra style points. These days there are a couple of cops around ready to write you up on just a suspicion of fare avoidance. Something's wrong with that guy's head.

You cant fix stupid. I guess he was saving that $2 for a bar of soap with a rope on it.

btw...soap on a rope does not work if you have it around your ankle...

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
