In case you haven't noticed, Akita T lives on the forums and doesn't actually play EVE. She's just here because she's posted so damn much people started to recognize her, plus CCP acknowledged her Paper Cuts thread, so she's clearly special and right about everything in regards to EVE, so the people of the forums love her :D

She's definitely not a troll, or someone who feels the need to ***** and complain or to comment on ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. EVER.

Plus, she knows what's popular on the forums.. Bashing and hating on CCP and the game we all pay to play, why would she ever post something positive?

It's not like I think she's stupid and can't make good points, something's just gotta give and it's not like CCPs doing the new forums on accident. The Thousand Papercuts is an excellent idea and streamlines what the Features and Ideas forum couldn't accomplish.

It's not calling on people to murder someone, but what is she really saying when she says "Here's hoping somebody crashes them hard. Again."?

She is both demanding progress and failure. How in any way can that possibly be reasonable? Fix my car, oh wait, you didn't do it the way I wanted so I hope someone drives it off a cliff.
No, she isn't stupid and I agree, Thousand Papercuts was a great thing, as it was used to give us various fixes we all wanted. Plus, she still does have valid points from time to time. But I can't help but feel like the success of that thread has made her feel entitled and that her opinion is always the right one and like she needs to comment in practically every thread nowadays to maintain her popularity or something.
In the case of this thread, her post just seems ridiculous, "OH I DON'T LIKE SOMETHING SO IT SHOULD FAIL"? Ridiculous. I'm sure in a few months time, everybody will have forgotten about the old forums and I'm also sure CCP will at some point try to implement some of the changes people want to these forums.

LOL, you could do it in ascii, but even that would look like ****.

Please note that ASCII art is not permitted in the forum signatures. Spitfire

I want a thumbs down button, then we'll see if the forums are REALLY as bad as you stick-in-mud think.

I really, really hate the old forums. They were awful and seemed like nothing more than a featureless, naked version of phpBB.
…and the new ones are (not just “seem like”) a featureless, naked, stripped-down version of yaf.net

This bears repeating - the forums they ALLEGEDLY spent SO MANY MANHOURS "developing" is basically an already existing forum software that's been mutilated then hammer-wedged in with its round slot into the square opening of EVE-Gate.
And practically next to none of the complaints from half a year ago have been addressed.
These forums are akin to something a CS major student would throw together for his thesis project at nearly the last minute after a heavy-duty procrastination session.

The section above applies perfectly.
If CCP successfully launches this junk (as in, they're not forced to revert), fully expect this to be how it actually ends up being 5 years down the road too.
Some of the changes should have already been trivial to implement, yet... oh, look, they weren't.
And of course people will eventually stop complaining. If you force-fed people mashed earthworm sandwiches long enough, they'll end up complaining when you switch back to hamburgers.

Oh, yeah, that's TOTALLY gone now.
Try posting an image.

Here, I'll wait.

Right, I should clarify, I'd rather images in posts be links anyways. So I'm fine with that being gone, though it would be nice to still be able to post small images, especially in signatures.

I'll admit, the lack of images is pretty stupid on CCP's part.

She is both demanding progress and failure. How in any way can that possibly be reasonable? Fix my car, oh wait, you didn't do it the way I wanted so I hope someone drives it off a cliff.

More like, you had a car that was pretty junky, but it worked just fine in driving you from point A to point B,
...then somebody gives you a newer, shinier car that you hate driving (for a variety of reasons, some perfectly justified, some just personal preference)
...AND tells you that you will no longer be allowed to drive the old car (even if it's right there in the garage and in working order)
...while not listening to you saying why you hate the new car, nor allowing you to replace it with a different model that would annoy you less.
Wouldn't you say "screw it, I hope somebody totals this new car in the parking lot, so I can either get the model I want with the insurance payout, or at least be allowed to use my trusty old car for a good while longer".

Your analogy is much better than mine and does get to the point, and I know the squeaky wheel gets the grease... It just seems you're more concerned on having something to say. You're a pioneer, you say what needs to get said, but you're harming your own integrity as a speaker by your excessive complaints.

I want you to keep doing what you do; I want you to put problems into words and offer solutions with them. What I don't think will support you is dismissing the hard work CCP has already passionately put into everything and using every opportunity to blame them for being incompetent and untalented.

What do you think someone thinks about themselves when they are called terrible things? Can you not see that by your attitude, demands and language that you create a problem that doesn't have to be there?

Can some one explain to me the intended difference between the compact view and regular view? Both have 4 inches of empty space each side of the screen

Smaller avatar images on the left, that's about it from what I can tell. Oh, and it hides the character details (race, corp, alliance, etc.)

I just Ctrl++ the entire thing Big smile

Or CTRL+scroll wheel, but for some whiners this obviously is extremely difficult.

That's not wider, that's LARGER. It's just a fancy way of zooming in. You can see even LESS text on screen that way.
So thanks for a "suggested solution" that completely defeats the purpose of what was asked.

There's so much whining it's hard keeping everything seperated. Well, yes it's larger, someone whined about the fonts being too small. And while it magnifies the text it also fills it up horisontally. Granted it's not address the border margins.

As it was already said, after a 6 months wait for the "forum-fail" we get new forums, that are identical to old "fail" they introduced once already, and we still have same problems. Images? Screw that. Screw that 6 months ago, and screw that now.
That is considered progress?
Design part aside, and point they spent 72.000 man hours re-skinning a forum, they forget one simple thing, make it efficient without functionality sacrifice.

They remove session change timer and introduce a whole new universe of bugs and problems (not limited only to latest content update)
They add CQ that does absolutely nothing old hangar view didn't do even better. We have our own char now, brilliant.
Hangar view before used ~20% CPU , and a small room with 4 rusty walls and 1 char uses 100% cpu.
And WiS? Imagine hundred chars like yours in high polygon count in bars or corridors. Did CCP even think of that? Do they care that more and more people are having problems playing the game they pay for?

In a game of internet spaceships, they "try" to fix stuff that isn't broken and complicate it in the process.
While spaceships aren't important at all and they get postponed in a game about internet spaceships.
Makes sense only to CCP i guess.

They took this : http://yetanotherforum.net/
They stripped it down. Badly.
They added EVE-Gate interconnection. They added some nearly-pointless fluff.
So... WHAT hard work ?

I give credit where and when credit is due. These forums have next to none of that justifiable.
Just because they do some of the stuff right and they are passionate about what they do doesn't mean I should cut them any slack when they drop the ball THIS badly in THIS particular matter.
Especially since the web design team (responsible for these forums, among other things) has NEARLY NOTHING in common with the teams that do the stuff that's actually worthy of praise.

I predict CCP is going to add a new feature they labor for months to develop and when they deploy it there'll be hundreds of people acting like it is the end to all they know and forget about what they were saying months later.

People defending an inferior product arguing against options and choice that the previous product already had always boggled my mind. Seems to me they are either retаrded or shilling for the offending dev team.

So when you're just plain mad it's "CCP", but only after I need to goad you on it you'll be specific?

No, that doesn't matter. What does matter is that you'll find the need to discuss failure and ignore success and as a figure like yourself, growing in popularity and maybe some authority, you need to be more responsible with your words and take the influence you have more seriously. That is, if you want to keep that influence and not be eventually seen as some curmudgeonly pundit whose entire visibility depends on being dissatisfied. Always dissatisfied.

You'll never let them impress you when you keep moving the goal posts.

Wow Akita starts a thread expressing dissatisfaction with the status of the forums and does so in a reasonably informed and logical manner.

Your response is claim that Akita is merely a doomsayer. Actually not merely a doomsayer a "curmudgeonly pundit". Way to argue the person and not the position.

The only problem I have is the tooltips with the thread preview. On a pc they are just highly irritating but on a cellphone they make browsing the forums almost impossible.
Pretty please with sugar ontop give us an option to turn the off, before I go crazy...
