Possibility of Race-Based starting stats?

I've played a fair amount of MMOs, and I find it a bit odd that E.v.e. Online's Space-Races all have identical starting attributes and skills (besides the very minor frigate skills). I think it'd be interesting if, say, Amarr had superior Intelligence but low Charisma; Achura had superior Memory but poor Perception; and Brutor players had high baseline Willpower and Perception but low Intelligence, etc. It would certainly make Space-Character creation a bit more involved than a game of "which face do I like better". Any thoughts on this?

You must be new here. This is kinda how it used to be. They changed it to easy mode.

This was the case awhile ago. Everyone rolled Achura characters because their base stats fit some of the most useful/most used skills in the game (people seem to like min/maxing).

Now we have remaps.

Long before my time as a eve player, this was true. different races had different "bonuses".

what happened was everyone started playing achura characters, and anyone else was considered gimped adn should reroll or give up.

having permanent stat advvantages would forever pigeonhole a specific race into training a specific direction, because training in the oent heya re weaker with may be longer training per skill in a tree with WAY more skills.

it woudlnt eb rpetty.

I rather like that they all start the same. Eve isn't like WoW where your race and class determines how you play the game. Making people who don't understand how the game works choose a race and having that affect their gameplay while they're still figuring out how it all works is an unnecessary barrier for entry.

edit: also, what Renzo said. Tom never surrenders.

My apologies, I didn't know that E.v.e. races used to mimic real-world characteristics. I hardly think being unaware of that constitutes "trolling", however.

What is this "E.V.E." and "EvE" junk floating around lately?

Seriously. Stop disrespecting the game.

Thank you.

They didn't mimic RL characteristics OR "races" in other MMO's.

In other games, Strength, or Intelligence, or Willpower, the stats do more than just letting you train skills faster. You can arguably justify "strong" warriors and "smart" mages. It kinda makes sense.

In this game, the only things the stats do is determine how fast you train certain skills. They have no meaning beyond that, and it was rather pointless to have Achura be chosen for all the damn characters because they had higher attributes. People min/maxed on 2 points.

In addition, it's a sandbox game. How intelligent your character is, is determined solely by how you act in the game. Memory by your notepad and cut/paste capabilities. Perception by how well your UI is arranged on screen, how big your screen is, and the latency you have to the server. And willpower by the size of your wallet and how replaceable your ship is.

The attributes of two characters of equal skill levels do not have any effect on anything. The computer hardware and attributes of the players behind the characters do, but can't be coded into the game.

If you want to roleplay a dumb, forgetful, but perceptive and full of zeal combat *******, by all means put your points in Per/Wil and have at it. All your enemies will be very happy that you stay in character, forget enemy lists and names, are an idiot in a fight, and swear up the local channels to the point of being banned.

Reported for implied racism. And reported for only playing Eve after it was dumbed down.

Umm... what? I was told this used to actually *be* in E.v.e. as a feature, but somehow I'm racist? Anyways, mods feel free to close this; I can't see this coming back as a feature, sounds like there was a good reason that it was taken out.

Now that you are back in Goons, you need to raise the posting bar a bit higher. The usual trash isn't good enough.

* "Amarr had superior Intelligence but low Charisma" - Whites are superior and that superiority complex makes them obnoxious.

* "Achura had superior Memory but poor Perception" - Asians are smart but have to wear glasses.

* "Brutor players had high baseline Willpower and Perception but low Intelligence" ... Really? Do we really need another Mr. Morton?

I'm trying to resist getting dragged too far into your race-baiting, but I believe Amarr are actually meant to be Jewish stand-ins (if one could even match real-world ethno-cultural and EVE groups on a 1:1 basis).

They should allow bigger ranges for remaps so ppl can get the min/max that they want. Min/max is what remap is about anyway.
