Racism in Eve, is there a punishment?

Ok, I recently encountered an incident of racism in System Local chat.

I found the language used racist and entirely offensive, so I petitioned it.

I immediately (fastest petition reply I have every received) got a message back to say it would be investigated, no feedback would be given and the petition was closed.

Having just seen the 'person' (used lightly) fly through local, I can only assume that the 'person' received nothing more than a slap on the wrists and a thank you for continuing to subscribe.

I guarantee I'd get more of a punishment if I named and shamed the 'person' though.

I don't expect people to name and shame, but am I the only one to feel that this persistent problem is not met with a harsh and public punishment?

Or maybe what you call racism, isn't.

I have just climbed out of my time machine. What time is it now?

Is it before or after the Old Testament?

Please let me know so I can start forgiving again.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

How does everyone else feel about the 'N' word?

I appreciate that between friend it does not carry the same meaning, but when used in Local, where you do not know who is present, it is offensive.

In local you know exactly who is present, unless you were in a Wormhole.

also;

I like to believe CCP does warnings first.

Overreacting and Whiteknighting much?

From what I understand, people who use such language would get a "gag order" if petitioned. Such a "gag order" would last a half hour or so for the first offense, and escalate after that (to eventual banning, I assume).

Obviously first time offenders receive a warning. I do not know what happens with repeated offenders. What would you like them to do? Banhammer someone instantly for offending your delicate sensibilities?

What would OP deem as the necessary 'Harsh and Public Punishment'? Would you like the ISDs to warp in, drag them out of station in their most expensive ship, announce in local for everyone to warp to the station, and then publicly execute them because they used a naughty in local? Id tell OP to HTFU...but id probably get petitioned.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Karl, if you are right, then this falls right into my 'slap on the wrists' category. You get banned for botting and muted for half an hour for racism. That is balanced.

Mire, lol, you innocent little thing!

Whoa there, I was thinking more along the lines of naming them, and banning them for 1 - 2 weeks....

but now you mention it, public floggings outside Jita would be an improvement on the local scams.

It works on a strike system. They will get a slap on the wrist, sure... If they do it again that slap might cost them a hand.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I quite like terrible metaphors ^^

Racism does get punished. I've gone ape **** at someone in my alliance who started yelling racist stuff in local. He of course argued back, so I AWOXed him... Twice. Alliance leadership took my side, and then they AWOXed him, and then kicked him from his corp. We then proceeded to camp him into the station so he couldn't get his stuff out. Eventually he tried to make a mad dash in a cloaky Transport ship. We caught him and destroyed everything he owned in nullsec. It was awesome. It is easily the best I have every felt about doing something that could even be labelled griefing.

CCP should be harsher on racism I think. Especially the more obvious examples of it. But frankly, if someone is being a ****, then get them killed. A whole load of times.

Nope, been here a while, but was obviously brought up with different standards if that sort of language makes me 'delicate'.

HTFU, amarr scum. I have far bigger concerns than someone's hypothetical skin colour.

You don't know anything about racism anyway. You've never been enslaved, or repressed. You don't know what it's like to be looked down on by a quarter of the galaxy just because of where you were born.

If anyone was to use the 'N' word to a good friend of mine in real life, they would find that their visit to A&E is proof that the safest place to use such words in on the internet.

Are you saying that racism shouldn't be punished so harshly? Or are you saying that it is okay if your alliance members are racist? Or perhaps your saying that racism is okay altogether.

Racist deserve it. If racists were a race, I would commit racism... but only... wait...
