How do I get different weapons or modules to target different enemies?

For example... how do I target one with a web stasifier, another with my turrets, and another with my missiles?

The way I'm doing it now... I target more than one enemy but everything gets focused on a single target and then I have to reactivate the weapons when it is destroyed -- even though another target is already locked. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Sorry for such a noob question, but I'm only 3 days old!

Once you've targeted more than one thing, the current "live" one has a set of animated arrows around it. Whatever you activate will affect that one. To change the live target, click on a different targeted thing up near the top of the screen (and then activate the module you want to affect the new target). One thing that won't work though is weapons turning on automatically, when a target becomes untargeted for whatever reason, all the modules that are active on it deactivate.

* Click on a target.
* Click on the overview (targeted stuff sort of looks like ><)
* Use mapped keys. Defaults: ALT RIGHT and ALT LEFT

You'd do better focusing fire tbh.

Only time to be doing actions on multiple ships is if you're pointing, jamming or repping more than one person.

And you never saw that list of locked targets on your screen.
And you never thought maybe I can click those to switch active targets.

Thanks for the help!

As for those condescending to a 3 day old account... good for you. But, actually, I do have another question about what someone wrote. If I have multiple active targets and I am firing upon one, someone commenting made it seem like all I had to do was click on the other target to switch where all my damage is going. Is that actually the case? If I have 2 people locked and I am focusing all my fire on one, do I merely have to click the other target to make it active? Sorry if this is a silly question, but one of the responses was confusing and I just want to be clear.

No.

If you have multiple targets locked, one of them will have a swirling arrows, that's the active one. When you push the weapon or webifier buttons, or tell drones to engage, they will activate on the active target.

You can click on any of the locked targets to make it active, but your weapons, webifier, and drones will continue to shoot the previous target, cause that's what you ordered them to do initially.

So, if you want to shoot weapons at target 1, drones at target 2, and webifier at target 3, the correct sequence is this:

Lock all 3 targets from the overview.
Click target 1 with the mouse.
Activate your weapons.
Click target 2 with the mouse.
Tell your drones to engage.
Click target 3 with the mouse.
Activate webifier.

If you change your mind, you can order your drones to return, or push the weapon and webifier buttons again and they'll glow red and will disengage at the end of the cycle, so you can then engage them on different targets. You can't order them to shoot a different target until the red glow ends.

Nope. Say you have two targets. You select one (arrows start rotating) and then activate your weapon.
Pew pew on target one.
To switch fire, you need to select the second target, de-activate your gun (or vice versa), and then re-activate your gun.
Pew pew on target two.

No. You have to cease firing, select your new target, then recommence firing.

If you have "locked targets" on more than one ship, you can switch targets by:
Clicking on the ship's name in the Overview, or
Clicking on the ship's target circle icon at the top of the screen, or
Clicking on the ship itself, or
Using a keyboard shortcut to toggle between targets.

You can pick your own keyboard shortcut using the game settings window (press Escape to see the settings window).

Just to be clear, as others have already posted above, clicking on a new target only makes you aim at the new target. It does not automatically make you stop shooting at whatever you were shooting before.
