Salvager I vs Salvage Drones

The Salvage mechanic is a little unclear. Does the chance actually effect the quality or how much loot you get from wrecks?

The salvager gets 3% per level and on the wiki says at Level 3 allows salvage of Tech 2. But the Salvager Drone only list that it gets 2% per level. So a couple questions.

1) Does the drone need to be level 3 as well to get T2 salvage or is it just your primary salvage skill?
2) Is the % the chance of finding loot on wreck?
3) Why do my Drones NEVER auto salvage?
4) Drones seem much faster at clearing up the area, is there a reason to choose salvagers over the Drones?

Salvage drones are never going to have a good enough salvage chance to get the extreme top end stuff. Salvager with gear can.

Salvage Drone I
Level 1 : 5% each, chance with 5 drones = 1 - (1 - 5%)^5 = 22.6%
Level 2 : 7% each, chance with 5 drones = 1 - (1 - 7%)^5 = 30.4%
Level 3 : 9% each, chance with 5 drones = 1 - (1 - 9%)^5 = 37.6%
Level 4 : 11% each, chance with 5 drones = 1 - (1 - 11%)^5 = 44.2%
Level 5 : 13% each, chance with 5 drones = 1 - (1 - 13%)^5 = 50.2%

Salvager I
Level 1 : 5% * 1 = 5%
Level 2 : 5% * 2 = 10%
Level 3 : 5% * 3 = 15%
Level 4 : 5% * 4 = 20%
Level 5 : 5% * 5 = 25%

Salvager II
Level 5: 7% * 5 = 35%

My Noctis has 2x Salvage Tackle I rigs, and the pilot has Poteque 'Prospector' Salvaging SV-905 implant, raising his Salvager II up to 60%

I believe those are seperate instances though, so it does not matter how many 13% drones are working on a wreck, if it required 20% access, they get nothing..

Well, if you're talking points, if something requires 20 points and you only have 13 you won't ever get it (like the warp scrambling system), but if you're talking "percent chance", the random number generator can be fickle. 13% chance is 13 out of 100 tries.

The % chance that Tau listed are then modified by a difficulty modifier depending on what you're trying to salvage.

For Example:
A Mission Generic Small Wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of 30.
A Mission Generic Medium Wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of 20.
A Mission Generic Large Wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of 10.
A Sleeper Large Advanced Wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of -20.

I know your trying to help but your just repeating what is in the wiki which is what is unclear.

Assuming all things are equal. Will I get BETTER and MORE loot from having a 11% vs 15%?

I figure the % is the chance of successfully salvaging. But from what I've seen all it does is cycle through again if you "fail". And I understand that not having enough skill means that some wrecks are unsalvagable.

But does the % actually effect the type of loot and how much there is when I do make a successful salvage? Or is it simply speed up salvage by reducing the number of failures? This is not really made clear anywhere.

No. The % chance is the chance per cycle of getting whatever loot was created when the server created the wreck.

There is nothing you can do to change what loot you're going to get.

The chance % is not on the type of salvage or how much, it's if you succesfully salvaged the wreck.

As an example:

Say the wreck is a box with something in it.

You are given a dice. If you roll 6 you can open the box to collect it. This means you have a 1/6 chance of rolling the correct number to open the box.

Now you get the same box and dice, but if you roll 5 or 6 you can open it. your chance is now 1/3 to roll the number to open it.

What salvage and loot is in a wreck is just randomly generated by the server and you can't affect that at all.
