It has been 13 years since this was said, we are still waiting..

The oldest thing I can remember is that Eve used to have ship painting in closed beta. I joined in phase 3 after it was removed, but I did see some screenshots on the beta forum. Player owned stations were also in beta, but were also removed for some reason. They had a contest to pick 3 corps to test them and then we just never heard anything about them again. Oh and missiles used to have splash damage and hit detection. You could put torps on a kestrel. Concord was killable. Jove space was on the map, but it was empty and only enterable by an exploit. You could have 10 drones. There was no warp to 0 and everyone had eleventy bazillion warp to 0 bookmarks. High sec was smaller. The only system I can remember specifics on is Clorteler. It was originally a 0.2, but now it's 0.5. 0.0 ores used to be in low sec. I'll edit if I remember anything else.

In the years leading up to launch the only information the players got was the mini stories the devs wrote up to flesh out the eve back story. Every so often a new screen shot was released with print at the bottom saying these were in game shots and not doctored because at the time the graphics were way too good by MMO standards.

When the game first launched there wasn't really much of a game there, every corp had to mine because this was the only source of income anyone had was mining and filling npc buy orders for things. Yes there used to be npc buy orders.

In the months after launch battleships were the biggest ships in game and more unattainable then titans are today. The Thorax was seen universally as the most awesome ship ever because everyone liked how one looked. My corp traded a weeks worth of mining profits for a Thorax Blue Print Copy with some small number of runs on it and counted it a good deal.

My guild actually used Rifters for mining because you could put 3 Miner 1's on it at the time and mine faster then anything else with the help of an industrial ship.

Character creation used to have more importance as well. You used to get to pick what skills you had based on what race and tribe you picked. Also your stats were decided by the same. Skill points increased your stats through the learning skills which everyone trained sooner or later before CCP decided they had to go years after implementation

Maybe it was my perception but corps used to be more into RP with what seemed like many corps going after only one race or one type of ship.

Ah yes - those disgusting times when devs used to know the history of their own game...

I had posted something about more recent EVE lore a while back. Since with the arrival of DUST 514, the Empyrean Age and Templar One books are now canon with EVE to a degree.

If CCP can make a CGI video of the various race leaders making grandiose speeches while showing off race ships or something.

Personally i would really love to see a CGI vid made of Tibus Heth doing that rescue under fire that made him famous in the first book and a speech from him once he took power.

Not to a degree. There was an expansion named Empyrean Age, introducing factional warfare. It also included a destroyed CONCORD station, and a Titan sitting on top of Caldari Prime.

Isn't there suppose to be some huge project to trim all eve lore to make more sense as well as buffing it up like return and or continuation of writing new lore..or i miss all that already ?

I have feeling that eve lore is stagnating a bit... there wore inc,s that was great now dust..i might just missing it i rly didn't poke around dust will take a look there.

Live events are up and running on a smaller scale tho they don't need mass tests for server load anymore.

I miss stories, for me they make eve more alive and current.

Jonric: What role will missions play in the game? (snip)

Thorolfur Beck: Players will be able to go on specific missions for the empires. These can range from freight-carrying to combat-oriented (pirate-cleaning) to covert missions (spying, finding information). The missions are mainly for players to learn all the different aspects of the game, and earn some bucks in the process. We don't intend AI involved missions to be the be-all and end-all of the game - they are something we believe many players will dabble in for a while and then move on to more actual missions involving other human players.

Quote:
Jonric: Will there be any computer-controlled opponents to fight, or only other players? What about computer-controlled guard ship or escort ships?

Thorolfur Beck: There will be computer-controlled opponents in some areas - call them space dungeons. Computer-controlled enemies are not, however, thought of as centerpieces of the game-play in EVE, but rather as a variation to help players tune combat skills or to keep players busy while waiting for grander schemes to unfold. We will try to channel conflict into the PvP direction, in a way that allows for a lot of much more exciting battles than possible with any AI, but without making life unbearable for the more peaceful or inexperienced players. In the secure zones in the game world there will be a lot of empire-controlled ships flying around, both armed ships guarding the peace as well as just normal space traffic.

Heh.

Gotta wonder if the cap-ship- hot-drop-blobby-gayness that is null sec now is what was originally intended.
