"protect and serve the people" that's a very common misconception. save for a world where minority report is real, the police have no legal basis or mandate to act -before- a crime is committed or a law is broken. only after.

A cop in my hometown in Texas cornered a convenience store robbery suspect in his car. 34 pistol rounds were fired. The windshield and drivers side window and door looked like something from Bonnie and Clyde, completely full of holes. The suspect was uninjured. Smile

The funny part is the cop was this really arrogant, wannabe badass guy. Drove a Corvette, had been a dentist making lots of money, but gave it up for a life of fast cruisers and firearms. The problem was not much real crime ever happened in our town. I knew this guy from the custom jewelry store I worked in. Texas Rangers, highway patrol, city cops were always bringing in nice jewelry for us to melt down and made into something else for their wives, girlfriends, or selves. Like really nice jewelry-- gold and big carat diamonds. I'll let you draw your own conclusions about that....

No offense meant to any law enforcement personnel who aren't idiot immature bullies and/or evidence thieves. There are some good ones out there.

Such a contrast to Germany. Sad really.

They apparently also have the coolest leg-guards.

I wonder if that's a factor in them being less violent. Too busy feeling like badasses to act like one.

Considering the number of "just," laws, I don't think it's fair to call anyone willing to enforce the evil majority of them "good," by any definition of the word.

That doesn't mean it's their fault for choosing it. They were probably abused as children and conditioned to respect authority without question or consideration for morality.

Also there is no one right or wrong morality, just pointing out. It's entirely subjective Blink

true story: i was headed down to san antonio from Hood in my sister's grand am. the rear license plate light was out, and a highway patrolman pulled me over for it. he ran my license and all that, my last ticket was six years prior, and I was born in El Paso... then he mentions that TX highway patrol is hiring.

holding a conversation with the patrolman wearing his smoky the bear hat, about the benefits of becoming a TX highway patrolman... at nighttime, with traffic going by, and him bathed in the light from his patrol car... was one of the oddest moments of my life

Well if we're doing good cops this segment then my favorite would have to be the one who pulled me over when he ran my plates. I have no registration, no insurance, and a suspended license; he had me dead to rights for a trip to jail. The guy came back and said that he would only give me a no insurance if I got out and walked. Hot summer sun or not, that was the best walk I ever had, including the day after when I walked to the insurance place, walked to the dmv, and walked to the courthouse, all of which are about as spread apart as could be.

On the news today there was some cop involved in the hunt speaking his piece about how the public should know they are doing everything they can and feel safe and protected.

At this rate after shooting up two cars with innocent members of the public in I would feel my scared of the cops than this dude running around.
