Here's some ideas about null and sov. If you don't like it or think it's stupid I don't care. This is bare bones to save you from a wall of text.

  • Null Sec Residents

  • 1. Allow people to truly live in null with a residency function. A player could choose one system to make their home every 90 days or so.

    2. Declaring yourself a resident automatically sets you to blue with the alliance that owns the system. You can still kill your neighbors or alliance members so pirates could have fun but this would lower their standing with the alliance and eventually they would lose residency.

    3. Alliance members whose alliance holds sov could be set as security forces giving them increased powers to maintain order. Ability to track any pirates who have engaged in criminal activity in their system/banish revoke residency of residents with low standing.

    4. While ratting, mining, plexing in your home system you would recieve better bounties, better mining yield, endless possibilities here for various bonuses.

    5. Taxes to high? Allow highly populated systems to remove the alliance governor and put one of their neighbors in office. This would have consequences...

  • Governors

  • 1. Alliances that hold sov should have to elect a governor from the alliance for each system they own. One per system.

    2. A systems governor would set docking fees, sales taxes (for market orders), and have the option to set tolls on gates into and out of the system.

    3. Governors would have a revolt button mechanic . This would allow civil war to occur within alliances. Other governors would then have to decide to be loyalists or support the rebellion.

    4. Popular systems that had a lot of non-alliance residents could opt to throw the alliance governor out. The alliance could then come down and smash the revolt reinstating an alliance governor.

    5. At times of war the system governor could commandeer non-alliance residents ship (one ship of the governor's choice) for the purpose of war. The player resident could keep his ship only by agreeing to defend their home system by remaining in that alliances systems during the war. That ship could then be flown by them in combat. Any player who flees forfeits that ship directly to the sov holding alliance. Upon fleeing you lose residency and the alliance decides whether you can return.

Would this be better than going out and shooting at an inanimate object?
    Benefits:
Residents would make good cannon fodder even if they were care bears. The more residents you have the more taxes/conscripts you have. Your alliance hates people? Set taxes so high for non alliance residents that nobody will live there.

Take the power away from 2-3 people at the top and make them delegate it to people they "trust". Then you will have a living breathing null sec instead of dead empty space.

Not gonna comment on any of the other stuff because its gonna be funnier to watch it get ripped apart by nullsec people, but this already kinda exists. The executor of an alliance can be overthrown at any time by 51% of the corps declaring support for a different executor. You can find the options in your corporate control panel.

Maybe your symbolism is just too cleverly done, or i don't know what you're referencing, but what the hell does any of this have to do with a butterfly?

i would find it hard to believe that you have ever lived in null. because your idea could be abused to every level. suddenly a whole alliance losses all their territory without a single shot being fired.

all these null threads make me miss my time in null....

1a./2a. This already exists. It's called "having the alliance set you to "blue" standings. What you are proposing are "auto" mechanics that the owning alliance will have no say in... resulting in...
    - "blue standings" never being honored ever again. The holding alliance will simply shoot whoever is not in their own alliance.
    - if you force the owning alliance to honor "blue standing" then you'll have alliances set up alts and declare residency in each other's territory...
--- enabling them to all spy on each other and make them FAR more paranoid than they are now.
--- set up cynos and traps no matter how many precautions are made... making owning space "unpalatable" for most people.
    - forcing people to play "nice"... which never really works (see: "social engineering") . If people want to behave a certain way, they will find a way to make it so. Mechanics be damned.

3a. Already exists. Teach people to use intel channels properly, have everyone keep combat ships handy, and shoot anyone who makes you mad. Keep shooting at them until they get the message. Make it "not fun" for the victim(s).

4a. It's called "upgrading the system." And 0.0 could use some better buffs with industry and science more than any of the other things.

1a/2a/3a. Already exists. Corp CEO and Alliance Directors have these kinds of powers already.

4a. Then people will come on the forums and complain "what's the point in voting if they people we voted out can just come in and kill us anyways?" Besides... this is ripe for abuse (see previous quote).

5a. And just what constitutes "war"? Being in a war-dec? Friendly alliances would perma-dec each other so they can take whatever stuff they want from anyone they want, anytime they want.
Is it when people invade? When the system is in reinforced? No carebear is going to undock his/her precious stuff until the smoke has all cleared. Or... he/she will cyno out or sell everything and bail before things get to that point. This would be even more unpopular than "docking denial" mechanics.

Make more alts. Have everyone in your alliance vote them in. Maintain power. Nothing changes.

I'm pretty sure if you were serious about these ideas, you'd have posted with your main. Shocked

Unless this IS your main, in which case, i don't think you really know what your talking about. P

Sure sounds like a really complicated system! Very much doubt we'll see anything like this implemented. Cool

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.
