Be careful of the line though... if you are offering ISK for something in RL like a website or some programming or something, you just exited new eden and entered civil court. Keep your scam IN GAME! Also, I once found out the hard way imitation scams are a no no. So you can't claim to be someone else in the game, and you can't create an organization that looks very close to another.

Signatures should be used responsibly...

So youre saying I should trash my Goomswarn alliance idea?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

It's pretty hard to take civil action against a random person in another country.

This is course de rigeuer for nullsec. Even better is if you can convince an industrial corporation that you really truly want to get your nullsec industrial infrastructure kick started. Get them to pack up several freighters with POS structures, BPOs, ships and resources. Tell them you will escort them to their new home system. Then meet them in EC-P8R and once they have all jumped in, blow them up and **** on their corpses.

Don't worry about the bad press, you can use it in your favour to show that some corps were unable to keep a lid on the operation, they told their friends who told their friends who compromised the operation and it was those loose lips that sunk the industrial ships. A horrible accident that could surely have been avoided if only the industrial corp directors had kept their plans secret.

This scam should be even more effective now due to The Mittani & Co making noises about "farms and fields" — which is of course CFC speak for "chumps who will act as bait for our enemies so we can have gudfites in home territory." You the nullsec holders are not interested in what it takes to get the chumps out there, but the chumps are willing to believe that you want to add their industrial and technological uniqueness to your own.

This scam is especially profitable for people who don't even hold sovereignty in nullsec: you have no sov bills to pay so apart from the ships and clones you will lose in EC-P8R, it's all profit.

The only thing I've ever heard ccp confirm as griefing has been can flipping in rookie systems. Seen warnings issued over it as well.

That being said however, I am not sure that the same safety net would apply when it comes to market scams directed at new players.

Isk has no real world value so it can't be fraud.

Yes.

I have to ask, because I was following a conversation yesterday that sounds exactly like what your describing. Did you get caught in a rent scam?

However, folks on this forum will rapidly point out in your thread(s) that it is a scam, so you'll only pick off the truly abysmally stupid.

Of which there are a great many; you should be golden.

Yup.
Has made me ISKies also. Sometimes, I offer to mock them in Local, and that seems to work even better for some reason.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

It's pretty hard to take civil action against a random person in another country.

So in other words: legally actionable if not reasonable. Probably.

If the real word value of the goods doesn't reach a certain point, you'll get laughed at & ignored. As for taking civil action, the onus is on you to find out exactly who you're taking action against. The courts aren't going to entertain a civil case against a computer game avatar.

A guy got murdered in RL over an in game item a few years ago, in china I think. And last year Mittani suggested that his minions attempt to drive a guy to commit suicide. There was a case in Massachusetts in 2011 I think where a girl commited suicide after extensive online bullying, immediately after that anti-cyber bullying laws were passed, and the schools started developing cyber bullying programs.

I'm not saying these things are right, wrong, or at all important, but they did happen, and they did result in far reaching legal action.

What happened to that guy mittens jokingly suggested be ganked again...and again...and again until something terrible happened?

What happened to that guy? He recently posted a thread showing his 100-strong mining fleet undocking. Well, a character with the same name has done so, at any rate.

Anyone who followed the story at the time will be aware that the guy was unaware of the media scandal until journalists started asking him about how devastated he must have been (because journalists never ask, " how do you feel" they asked, "describe your outrage over this incident.")

About a week later someone found him in game, asked him about it, and he barely even remembered the convo that was quoted... admitted he was full of it in that convo too trying to get the aggressors to feel sorry for them so he wouldn't lose anything.

In other words, Mittens cause no issues with his drunken antics, other than the backlash against himself.

Anything inside the game goes, pretty much. Hense why EvE is full of dicks of the highest order, more than happy to relieve you of your isk and goods, followed by your life. It's best to approach everything as a potential scam. Once you've given someone something, it's theirs!

Though as stated in above posts, there are occations where it can bleed into the real world. This is where people need to be careful. You can steal everything someone has, kill them repeatedly and curse their corpse, but as soon as you start saying things about people in the "real-world", thats when things like legality come into effect. Plenty of real-world examples of how people have devistated and destroyed peoples lives, remotely, via the internet. I still think the crazy sword wielding lunatic was the best example. He really, really wanted that sword. The mittens should have known better, considering his position, to walk the line from in-game irrelevancies to real-life threats. I wasn't surprised in the least it blew up in his face!

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.
