So I've learned that every 16 missions you are given a storyline mission that will boost faction standing such as Caldari State. I was just wondering how much of a boost these missions normally give?

Depends on the mission, it's not a fixed number

An important thing about standing gain:

It's a percentage gain. a percentage of your distance from standing 10.

Which means, as your standing goes up, the absolute gains go down and down.

Combat storylines give more than distribution storylines. Higher agent level storylines give more as well, of course.
Just like regular missions.

To give you an idea, these are the gains I got from the last 3 storyline missions (L3):

0.87%
2.05%
1.56%

To clarify the point of how standing mechanics work:

Say I have 7.0 with a faction with 3.0 left until I reach 10.0

If I were to get a mission that has a 5.0% standing gain then I would actually gain 0.15 (0.05 x 3).
If I happened to get the same mission several times in a row my end standings would be:
7.15 = 7.0 + (5% x 3) ----- [0.15 gain]
7.2925 = 7.15 + (5% x 2.85) ----- [0.1425 gain]
7.427875 = 7.2925 + (5% x 2.7075) ----- [0.135375 gain]

Thus the higher the standing the smaller your returns are.

This is how ship resistances work as well and is how they make it pretty much impossible to ever get 100% resistance to anything even with 50 billion ISK officer mods...

I declined a storyline mission once and took a standings hit.

I have been afraid to decline a storyline mission since then as a result.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I decline regular missions all the time with no problems.

Yes I am an alt. I see no reason to make it easy for bullies and greifers

This should only happen if it's within the 4 hours thing.

If you're running L1 missions rapid fire it's very easy to reach a second storyline within 4 hours (one every 15 minutes) and run into a case where you decline twice within 4 hours.

you might be right.
But the storyline mission was for another agent and i didn't get the warning that i normally get if when i do that.
But if i decide to try that again, I will make a special effort to watch for that.
Thanks.
