Part 1:

I would really like the option to save my screen shots in .bmp like we used to abel to a year ago. I am not entirely sure as to the reasons why this was taken out and replaced with .png. Do not get me wrong I'll take png files of jpegs any day but i still would prefer to save my screen shots at lossless quality even if each file is around 8 megs. Perhaps making it a drop down menu instead? Low quality jpeg default, medium quality for png and high quality for bitmap.

Part 2:

There is a discrepancy in the settings. when i tell the client to capture a portrait it captures it in jpeg format. Why? I have high quality screen shots turned on so why does it go to jpeg? it should be saving them in png format.

Please Google up and read about the PNG format before embarrassing yourself like this...

PNG format is near lossless. It works by removing the anything that registers as black as defined by compression settings. the more aggressive the compression the more dark shades are removed. last time i checked eve relies heavily on dark shades for the sky boxes and shadows

Forgive me if im being ignorant, havent looked at this stuff since my design classes in high school.

but isnt the JPEG/PNG/etc superiority war practically a myth anyways? its just different ways of storing the image. though if i recalll there was one huge-ass filetype that was badass-levels of HQ, but i dont remember what it was.

(also, sicne we use geometry to sculpt our chaarcters, shoudlnt it be possible to save them as that one fiule-type that is just connecting points to make perfect infinitely-small curves in the image? like no matter how far you zoom in you never see a pixel?)

And it also has true lossless compression algorithms. Guess which one the client is using?

no myth between jpeg and png. jpeg is rather aggressive compressor and discards a lot of information and causes artifacts.

as for the geometry question. indeed it is possible. its a process known as vector graphics. unfortunately the only programs i know capable of using them are photoshop and adobe illustrator. problem with vector graphics is that they have heavy resourrce demands

Shok it can be taken with an amazing algorithm but not all decoders are equal to one another and will result with different net results between programs.
