Let's say you're fighting a small mixed gang of BCs, cruisers and frigs...

...what BS would you prefer for this job: torp Raven or blaster Megathron? You're self part if a smallish gang of ~5 pilots. Factor in all new or coming modules like ASB, MJD, AAR and so on. Also let's try to consider already announced coming (smallish) changes to BSs: Mega will be attack class - comparable to the current Typhoon in terms of speed - Raven will become combat class.

More important: why would you choose it?

If 1-2 of your 4 friends is in a huginn or rapier then you can get away with flying a torp raven vs smaller classes. In every other scenario the Blasterthron will better suit you.

Blaster Megathron.

Alternatively, Active-Tanked Hyperion should be better in this case.

Forget ships with BS sized guns or launchers. They're going to have tracking/applied DPS problems no matter what. What you want is a neut Domi with dual webs, a giant brick tank and cruiser sized ACs or Blasters.

TBH, if you're webbed and scrambled, then I bet the torps will do a lot more damage than blasters against close-orbiting frigates. Particularly if there are any TDs involved, and since we're talking frigates there's a reasonable chance of this. But unless you've armour-tanked the Raven to get the necessary webs on, the applied torp DPS will still be dismal.

Of course, the better idea would be to avoid getting webbed and scrambled in the first place. A Mega with Typhoon mobility would stand a reasonable chance of blapping the frigates on the way in. P

torp raven + frigs = dead raven, raven is doing NOTHING to those frigs UNLESS those frigs are being painted up the wazoo and are dual webbed.

mega all the way, just make sure you got the webs and enough light drones for dealing with the frigs.

Hell no. If they are webbed and painted, Neutron Blaster Cannon II's and Gallente Battleship V (which means 37,5% extra tracking) mean a world of hurt for the frigates. The Megathron pilot can probably ungroup the guns and one-shot them in pairs.

No webs and no painting? The Mega still has the bonus tracking and, just like a Talos, it can smoke frigs much more easily than the torp Raven.

Mega with neut .... ofc ... why the hell nobody mentioned domi?

Domi is pretty decent especially if it carries heavy neut ... scram, web, neut ... frig or dessie poof in 3 secs, cruiser in 10. Pirate

properly fited typhoon can work too.

Nonsense, a tackled Megathron will not track a close-orbiting frigate.

We all know that a kiting Talos can nuke frigates that attempt to close, and I noted that the Mega should attempt the same trick, but this generally works better if the Mega/Talos is not webbed and scrambled itself as specified...

Hands down the blasterthron...Raven just seems like shooting yourself in the foot if you know you are going into that engagement.

Thanks for your input. I assumed frigs would be the problem. Not because of their damage - they interrupt mobility and make vulerable to hot drops or to kiters/medium range snipers. So getting rid of them fast is important.

True, a Mega has the ability to blap them...but only when not TDed to death. It's a risk/reward thing after all I guess. Mega performs much better when nothing goes wrong. The Raven's ewar resilience offers a bit more reliability but (much?) worse 'peak performance' here.

Seeing TDs used really often I hoped the Raven would work nice here with 2 neuts + drones + (low but consistent) torp damage. If the gang has 5 members we're speaking of 20 unbonused light drones.

If you're willing to use a Mega, the Talos is a much better choice for that fight.
