Make an ore bay cargo expanders/rigs. The penalty for their use is a decreased cargohold or perhaps a decrease in mining efficiency. Since you want to expand on your ore bay you had to remove some of the mining electronics and as such you have reduced your mining efficiency in exchange for more room. A larger ore bay = more time mining.

So the fact that a Mackinaw can now hold more than double the ore a hulk used to, while fitting double the tank and still having room for mining upgrades, (so it actually yields more too!) is not good enough?

I really hope this is a troll.

u forgot it had its yield increased as well.

No troll nor mining bot. An ore bay expander would be useful on such ships as say... the Venture. Boosting that from 5000m3 to a lil bit more buys you a lil bit more time to mine in wh's or in low/null sec. Valid poo\int though on the bots/afk miners. But using them takes from your tank mods you can use, so it wouldn't be a good idea for afk mining. But than again his is Eve after all and anything is possible.

Cargo Expanders traditionally decrease your tanking ability and movement:

Expanded Cargo Hold II:
+ 27.5% increased Cargo bay
-- 10% Velocity penalty
-- 20% Hull penalty

Cargo Optimization Rig:
+ 15% increased Cargo bay
-- 10% Armor Penalty.

I think allowing Ore Hold Rigs is reasonable.... but it needs a reasonable drawback
Ore Optimization Rig:
+15% increased Ore Bay.
-- 10% Shield Penalty (at the minimum)

true they might allow for longer solo-ninja mining jobs in hostile space, but cloaky transport support would probably be better for that.

u'd still make more money just mining in hi-sec tho. rather than having to jump in and out of a system every time ur hold fills, even with these rigs. u'd need something like an Orca (or two) or a rorqual to make remote mining better than local mining.

another criticism is what these rigs could do to Hulks. right now Hulks are deliberately restricted to a 'fleet' role by their ore bay making them difficult to operate in a solo or alt fashion. extending the Hulks ore bay would just mean ppl could use even more hulks at once.

if u want big ore bays then the retriever and mack are there.
