If only they would show that in the EVE trailers, you will have millions wanting to play "Locust swarm"

I find this unacceptable. Not the 10 shots part, the me surviving part.

Henceforth and forevermore, it should be official CCP policy to reinforce whichever node DBRB happens to be on. No, that's not a fat joke.... maybe.

CCP. You offer a feature you call "Single Shard Server" and you can't deliver it. Today's fleet fight rendered the game totally unplayable. We had to wait 20 minutes to enter a single system, and when we did, the battle was so extremely laggy that it was not EVE. So we have a game in which the main feature can not be properly played.

TEN years of EVE and still you are unable to offer your paying customers an decent giant fleet fight without lag, crashes, freezes and more. How long is goint to take until you do something to deliver?

Can't you implement a system in which nodes auto-reinforce themselves when they feel overloaded?

FIX the fking lag already. IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU DO.

Thank you for you amazing suggestion, no one ever thought of that.

CCP should hire you.

Yes but to be honest one of the key selling points of EVE is large fleet battles, heck how many trailers have it?

Then you go to youtube and look at FRAPS of large fleet battles and you just get a giant lag fest blob.

Dominiontrailerlol

Edit: I was actually keen on eventually joining a null sec corp for wars but watching this battle on twitch...yeh I'm gonna not do that now.

You know, everything has a limit, even 'large fleet battles'. For a player who plays some other MMO and joins PvP events that consist of 4 to 50 players or something like that, 500 players on grid feels like the said 'large fleet battle'.

But now when you think about it, 2000+ is it's own number already...

That was a master fun fit !

Already got in several giant fights and this could be very fun except lag party makes this kind of fight really disappointing.
What's the point of log on to get stuck in front of your computer not being able to do whatever? -none except "I was there"

actually it was DBRB looking to hotdrop DnD on the RF timer because DnD/LO had dropped dreads (without much success) on one of DBRB's fleets a little over a week ago.

as DBRB doesn't follow low-sec news he probably had no idea that DnD had already shown off their PL batphone last Monday.

then he jumped instead of bridged which turned what would have been GSF welping a few carriers and dreads to batphoned PL supers into a supercapital fight.

tl;dr The fight is attributable to DnD being ballsy and dropping dreads on a DBRB fleet on Thursday 17th.
dbrb being bad at EVE (and refusing to suck up his mistake/lose his titan) lead to the escalation.
The POS was just an extra.

Basically...yawn.

Sad to say, since I was hoping for massive mayhem, but the fundamental flaws in the game mechanics/ capabilities of CCP's servers were exposed yet again.

I am not saying that given the amount of ships on the node that anything but a supercomputer capable of modeling weather or a nuclear explosion could have handled the load.

Far from it. I think CCP has done a great job designing software/ hardware to model the millions of calculations to simulate a battle between so many objects.

But look at the final tally.
According to goon's Pravda, between the 2 sides, 89 caps and 9 supercaps were destroyed. (those numbers will certainly added to, though I doubt by much)

In the overall context of the order of battle, whoop dee do.

Last I heard, 168 supercaps engaged, for who knows how many hours, and a total of 9 went down.
What is that, 6%?

And precisely how long does it take either side to recover?
If PL lost a total of 1, maybe 2 supercaps, a few days to get back to full strength?
How many supercaps are in the pipeline right now in null sec?

Null sec wil try to spin this as creating content.
Guess what null sec. Some battles in high sec or wormholes are far more epic in percentage of total assets a corp/alliance commits than this tiff, requiring far more skill and guts than jumping into a system, and running Jita orders on an alt while sitting in a TiDi'ed system.

I watched the live feed provided by PL.
Sorry, nothing epic about that, just slow and boring.

Sure, a trillion ISK may have been destroyed.
And you guys replace that with a weekend of ratting and moon goo.

CCP, learn from this.
You want to make battles epic and memorable?
Make supercaps something impressive again.
If you won't nerf hull sec income, then increase the cost of supercaps 10 or 20 fold, so when one goes down it means something.
Also, start charging huge fees (in the form of isotope costs), based on mass, when cynoing into a system.
Make it hugely costly, even by blue null standards, to cyno in 100 supercaps.

Then suddenly, playing Supercap Blob Online becomes a thing of the past, and maybe you won't have quite so many pilots in a system killing the node.

Ironically, the reason only 9 supers died is because it WASN'T in nullsec. If it had been, it easily would of been the largest supercap welp of all time. But guess what, low sec mechanics are ******* ****.

no bubbles and doomsdays in low-sec. if this fight had happened in 0.0 the death toll would have been higher.

How many supercaps are in the pipeline right now in null sec?

And how many of the supers in the pipeline do not have a pilot already waiting for them? How many production lines are sitting idly just waiting for a customer?

(the answer is: none)

You are right that monetary loss is not such a massive issue but you miss that supercap production is a real bottleneck.

If you use the next titan that rolls off the production lines to reimburse one of the pilots who lost theirs today, then some other titan pilot will have to be pushed back one slot in the queue.

The end result is one less titan for the coalition unless they expand their production lines (and even if they did decide to do that the effect would only be visible 3 months down the road).
