Has anyone ever forgotten to upgrade their clone after dying, and lose all their SP?

Losing recon 5 was a rage inducing moment. But i lost it because of my own stupidity by not getting someone to scout before undocking at a station with no medical services after getting podded. Without loss there is no value and a eve like game with no value attached to anything already exists its called sisi.

SP loss mechanics have been nerfed a few times and there is a lot of outdated information on the net that people get needlessly scared about.

AFAIK the current mechanic is that you lose 5% of the difference between your current clone and your total SP from the skill you have most SP trained in or 50% of the SP in that skill - whichever is lower.

So the highest possible SP loss due to a single death would be 2.048m SP (half of a rank 16 skill).

I got podded in my home system once and in search of immediate revenge I hopped into another ship to join the others in my gang. An hour later I was back in station when EVEMon started warning me about an insufficient clone. I definitely dodged a bullet there Shocked

I looked at my old corps killboard to see a guy (mentioning no names) had been podded twice in 10 minutes. Knowing the guy, i logged onto comms and asked him what skill he had lost. I lost 2/3 of amarr bs5. It was a sad day. I retrained it and it wont happen again.

Its all part of the live and learn Eve process and I wouldn't ever change that. Lol

While I have no problem with SP loss, it's kind of a convoluted and not well documented thing.

Spent a week PVPing in C6-C5s with a none upgraded clone (which covers what, 100k sp?) and 96m skill points once. I was very very lucky and didn't get podded.

The first and only time I did it, I had been in a fleet the friday before, been killed and podded first in the fight (Yay for alphabet target-calling), and logged off in a rage after clone jumping into my +5 learning implant clone, then went away for the weekend. Came back monday, leapt straight into a fleet, and was again killed and podded first in the fight. Annoyance at again missing out on the fight, turned into anger when I saw the clone notification and my lost AWU V, to embarrassment when I realised I didn't have a clone with learning implants any more.

Icing on the cake? The skillpoint reimbursement for learning skills was in that weeks patch, and I ended up using all my reimbursement points to get AWU V back. Haven't made the same mistake since.

There's no gameplay benefit whatsoever to upgrading ~clone grade~ except not getting robbed out of possibly entire weeks of training time. The game can't even be arsed to provide a popup offering the upgrade. The only purpose of that mechanic is to provide a way for thing to go very wrong against you.

I'm laughing at you all and your beaten wife syndrome. Sorry guys but you got robbed sideways and beaten to a pulp but it's OK. You deserved it?

It knows what you think.

I think it's an outdated game mechanic TBH. Also if you think about it, it's penalizing you financially (because CCP has stated that you pay for the skill queue).

Yup.

As a newb I carebeared enough to outfit a half dozen Rifters and proceeded to Amamake for a FrigFry. My first attempt at PvP other than being wet willied every time I dared cross out of high sec at that point.

I died in a nanosecond, leaving less value in my faitfit loot than the price of the ammo to kill me. The HA guy even asked if I had implants before shooting my pod. I boldly told him to do it, I could skip slowboating back for another ship that way. Haha, I thought- surely this pirate will be impressed with my fearless plucking of death's own beard!

He wasn't

He hit F1 and I woke up in a vat. I jumped in another ship and rushed back for more suicide with pod goo still damp behind my ears.

Being new to PvP at the time, I had simply not had to remember to update my clone immediately. Now I rarely undock before at least checking it's up to date. It's like trying to milk a bull- you only make that mistake once before the error of your ways becomes abundantly clear.

Luckily I was a newb, so the loss wasn't bad. I lost the ability to fly my Amarr Interceptors, which hurt since it was the only T2 ship I could fly, and had literally gotten the skill a day earlier. Had a hangar full of Maledictions (actually I owned like two Mals but I was very proud of them) I suddenly couldn't fly. But all the training for those ships was really easy to get back. I lost maybe 2mil SP I'm guessing.

What about the part where you forgot to update your clone? Would sobriety have fixed that?

That's a good point. The story only explains why he died once. He would have had to die, not upgrade the clone and then die again. One of those would have happened while sober.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.
