Back in 2009, I used Blender 3D to create models using Triexporter. Also, back in 2009, I also took it to the next level and used a color 3D printer to create a physical model. I actually create several other models making improvements to how the colors matched the game ( no such things as Pantone acturate 3D color printers back then lol ).

T3 Cruiser model

Now that was my first attempt at creating a model but my other attempts were stolen from me so I regret not having pictures of the improved models.

I still have my old directory from 2009 with the old copy of triexporter. But of course, I want to use the latest models.

I downloaded the latest Triexporter and ran into a problem with the models not actually loading properly that was fixed by downloading the latest version of Granny.dll for it. Ok, that is working however...

I am not able to see the current ships ( Venture, Corax, etc ) and the new turrets. Humm, is there maybe something in the registery I have to flush out?

Also, I've read about the .black files which are new to me so where is the link utiltiy to extract the .black files?

I'm glad to read a lot of progress has been made using Maya but I'm going to be making some videos tutorials on using Blender to help anyone use a great free tool.

One last thought I have would be creating an Android app that will import the data you can extract with Triexporter so you can show your friends how cool the ships look on your Android phone or tablet.
