Hi API loving EVE players,

We just got hit by a scraper trying to scrape all the character names in the EVE universe. We have blocked his IP address. We get this type of attacks every now and then. Hope everything is back to normal.

Can we hunt them down with pitchforks and torches, then throw them into a lake?

So what would that mean? going through a billion digits starting from 0 to pull any possible characters?
What idiot would do that?

You guys should probably add a cache to the character ID to character Name, so only 100 requests within half hour is possible.

On a related note, I recently started to get lots of CCP Error 904 from EveMon [IP temp. blocked with 2-3 minutes cooldown]. Jimi from EveMon says it's on CCP's side, what do you think? BTW, I get that on 3 different ISPs.

I was last night. Not checked tonight.

But I was doing wget's to cache and use the xml directly.

I found I'd make a request and it'd appear to hang, ctrl-c and rerun the same wget command and it'd respond instantly.

Felt alot like a round robin load balanced system with a dead server.

The evefit servers are having the same issue.
eve-kill also seems affected.

Any chance of an update on this issue ?

Edit: a traceroute gets me to srv248-e.ccp.cc (87.237.36.248) as the server my API calls get routed through
not sure if this is related at all. But might be useful

I am experiencing severe delays trying to access the API. Is there any news?

Some of my calls are returning

Server Error in '/' Application.

Same here, I'm still getting a lot of delays and internal server errors trying to access the API.

What I'm doing is fetching a couple (about seven) API keys to check the skill queue (once an hour), I assume that's okay?

Tuesday 01/22/13, 2am EST approximately my RG spontaneously reset itself. ATT Uverse. After it came back the only thing that did not work was any 3rd party app calling for API updates. This includes EveMon, EveHQ, EFT and almost anything else you can think of. OSX, Win7, IoS devices, all exhibit identical behaviour.

Evemon cannot get any info from the API server. API Tester returns an "unable to connect to internet" and will serve up nothing but the internal error page.

EveHQ internal web browser works, however no API calls do.

nslookup resolves IPs correctly.
Firewalls have been checked and reset.
Routers have been checked and reset.

IoS devices taken off the WiFi and using Cellular work properly, put them back on WiFi and they fail.

I can find no other errors or non functional software issues, only API calls from 3rd party apps to api.eveonline.com and the API tester in evemon all claim no internet connectivity.

Acts almost as if my external IP has been blacklisted for API calls

Did CCP Blacklist a stack of ATT IPs for API calls? I can hit the server with normal browser just unable to pull API info with anything at all.

Ditto on the Portraits. None at all on any machine on internal LAN. image.eveonline.com is not spitting out any Portraits for Firefox, IE, Chrome, or Safari.

I cannot access API keys in EVEmon as an ATT Uverse customer, either. I also cannot view any portraits on the forums or in-game. Happened at the exact same time as the above poster.

Another ATT Uverse customer having issues. EVEmon is unable to connect to the API server, as is Aura (for Android) when connected to the Wifi. Firefox is able to access the API site with no issues. I'm not sure about EVE Online from the same location, as it's a remote server at a relative's house that I'm visiting currently. This is all after the Uverse network outage roughly 39 hours (tuesday morning) before this post was made. Can this be looked into and the situation remedied ASAP?

Can also verify that the character portrait server is also not working properly.

I also am an ATT Uverse customer who is experiencing the same issues as the above posters. I can connect fine via celluar hotspot, but the wired connection to ATT, i cannot connect to API to pull information.

if you are a windows user run a trace route in CMD to see if you are connecting to the API server at all or where it is failing.
just not sure of the IP of the API server.

I also have a lot of "500 http error"... The 2 minutes timeout is a real problem.

Some statistics to explain the problem : Number of API request BETWEEN '2013-01-24 14:00:00' AND '2013-01-24 15:00:00' :
OK : 937
HTTP 500 : 147

147 HTTP Request in 1 hour, it's 147 x 2min of timeout...
I've ~ 2000 API files pending update due to these errors.

I did this last night, was able to trace route to the api server just fine.

I ran a trace route and the point of failure was the api server as well and I too am an AT&T uverse customer on the American continent.

CCP you need to look into this problem and get us a fix. I have 5 "paid" accounts and submitted a petition 2 days ago and have not had a response to my petition or obviously no response to these inquiries.

Roll

Thanks
