Pathfinding

All the different AIs in EVE seem to have great problems with this; in fact, EVE seems to be the only game where the AI has such issues. If it's not hard to fix, which I guess it is, CCP should look into it soon.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Perhaps define "pathfinding" so the rest of us know what the hell you're talking about?

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I believe he is talking about bounces off rocks/acc gates/etc.

Ah, collision avoidance...

Yeah, would be nice to solve that.

My guess is that its the same issue as many other problems, the fact the codes knocking on for 15 years old.

tbh it's not that bad.. if they fixed it it'd devalue manual piloting

My only issue is the the bounce boxes at times, other then that., and well some wonky physics at times as well.

To everyone else: It can be really annoying in large fleet fights, when you're flying small ships.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I knew what that meant, but wasn't sure what that would have to do with EVE. I'm never in large fleets with a small ship, so still not sure what you're talking about with regard to EVE. I'm sure the coders will get right on it though.

When you're flying small ships, you usually rely on your speed to keep you out of harm's way; however, it's not unusual to bump into another ship and slow down, which makes you very vulnerable. Another thing that is probably related to pathfinding in EVE is how ships have to change orbit direction after activating or deactivating a propulsion module.

There is a fix for both of these particular issues. It's called 'Manual Flight'.

Because "manual flight" is 100% manual in EVE....

You plot a course and the game takes care of the rest. Flying in EVE has no direct input, just commands; ever notice that your orders are not processed instantly? This is because the game must first make calculations and then execute your command. Moving ships in EVE is more akin to moving units in an RTS, and like in those games, pathfinding should be present.

I think about it like this.

Your ship and you, are cybernetically linked to each other. Your mouse click is equivalent to a thought going out and being processed by the on-board computers, and then the ship's AI Auto-Pilot, tells the ship what to do.

You are not a pilot, so much as a Ship Commander, standing on the command bridge of his/her ship and directing androids to do all the work for you.

Which is also why I honestly don't think that ship crews in EVE exist, as droid and AI tech are so advanced that a flesh and blood crew on even a Titan or Super Carrier, would actually be detrimental to the power and prowess of the ship. Less efficient fleshies, means more living and cargo space for food and other necessities, and sleep shifts around the clock.

An all droid crew though means the ship can be smaller and maximize efficiency and speed.

So, in that case...

... you aren't piloting anything; just simply telling the ship where to go and sitting there in your tub of goo listening to tunes and enjoying the ride.
