Great to see you guys like this Big smile

Try this out: Be at the outgate in your current system and center the camera on it. Then move the camera so that the system which you will be jumping to next is right outside the gate on the screen. Now jump. Watch how your jump line goes to the system with the first plot line going from it.

Shocked

Imagine if it went Star Wars style and made you ZOOM for an instant with stars and galaxies flying across your screen. Mother of god.

Dune-style would be better. All of space bends in toward you and then flows out from you, only you're in a different spot when it expands again. Granted, for the already inebriated that might be a bit much to take.

Hell with 'useful', I like my interstellar travel to be pretty. This is awesome!

If you want pure function and no soul go play a game where untextured spheres do numbers to other spheres or something.

Useful, maybe not.

Awesome addition to the game, abso-friggin-lutely!

This I really like, it'll add nicely to the game's immersion.

Now I'm wondering if this isn't a little baby step towards a new navigation interface, one that would be fun to use with a touch screen - select star on screen, select Navigate To.

Hasn't that been like that for years? it even shows which direction you should be going with a small animation/flashy thing.

Yes for many years

Not sure if sirius (scnr).

It has been like this in the map view, but not in your actual space environment.

If CCP can connect the first jump to your next star gate, it will be even more awesome!

I would like to have patrol routes in eve, where i could use this function to check on my favourite route what's new on scanner.

very cool feature. given that the star field is "real", it would be interesting to have features related to that for fleet combat. imagine that you could drop a probe on certain star systems, and then "see" reds (or pirate targets) popping into and out of monitored systems just by looking around. or a fleet commander with the right skills/ship setup could use fleet mate scouts in the same way, and get the intel on rough number of enemy/friendly troop movements by just panning the screen around. right click in space to set destination for the system where your scout just picked up a hotdrop.

an option to perma-show the local constellation links would give you an instant "feel" for where you are on the map. Add in friendly jump bridge connections and you could have more informed and mobile pvp. nothing that cant be done already via regular chat channels/voice comms, only WAY faster and not as subject to accents :)

i picture it as something tony stark would design into his HUD.

Could someone explain the point of this?

It looks "pretty" but I'm having a hard time understanding the point of spending time to code that as appposed to any number of things that would actually be usefull in EVE.

Or is this where we are in EVE's life?
Getting excited over stuff that has zero useful fucntionality in the game.

You're complaining about a bit of visual polish on a 3D game which could be functionally represented by a spreadsheet?

You're trolling.

Not all.

I'm complaining that this PARTICULAR visual polish has no functional use. It's not same as improving missile effects, turret effects, the way nebula are viewed.

I'm complaning that I'd rather see functional things getting coded as apposed to useless little visual features that have zero impact on the game as a whole.

If disagreeing with you make sme a troll, then whats calling someone a troll that disgrees with you, make you?

This adds immersion to the game. Immersion is a huge part of a MMORPG. HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone has a different idea of immersion.

The nebulae are an existing part of the "world". It's our trees if you will. Updating them makes perfect sense.

I've never seen anyone ask for this.
I've never seen CCP talk about doing this.

And I personally do not see how this makes space more "immersive".
No one ever said, give us lines in space that connnect stars so that I can feel more immersed.

It's not that big a deal to me to be honest.
IF CCP is saying this is something that took one guy like an hour or two to code in his spare time. But if this is something someone spent a week working on, I'm sorry, but that's rediculous.

CCP said modular PoS's turned out to be "to hard", station exploration got shelved, and for all we know WiS is never going to happen.

But thank god we got lines in space.

If it took someone a week to do this, thats chump change.

Hi there,

I first got the idea for this when I was orienting the star gates to point to the actual stars, a long time ago. This was a pet project that I did in a few evenings in my spare time. My hope was to bring more depth to the background and a sense of direction when traveling long distances.

I am glad you like it. To those who don't see the point: I guess I should have done something else in my spare time :)

So it took you about 3 days to do this? Nice. Well done sir.

Doing something for a video game in your spare time that is totally pointless but cool is pretty much what EVE players are all about.

So much win. Thank you, CCP Mannapi.

I'm figuring that this will eventually allow us to pick out our home stars and favorite destinations from the star field, so that "our" space really does seem like our space, and travel routes pick out ad hoc but familiar constellations. So cool.

If there is not one yet, there should be a creative team that uses this exact concept for everything they do. EVERYTHING. If Tony Stark would put it in his HUD, it should be in Eve.

Also: CCP Mannapi, I love it and can't wait to see it on Tranquility. Bravo sir.
