Indeed! A cord that links from the outbound star gate to the skybox!

Interact with the local cluster of stars by pointing at them in the sky! But that could get a little irritating when you're trying to click something that's shooting at you, or a box you're trying to loot, or …

oh wow

what if cynosaural field and cyno generator icons appeared next to the 'background' star in the distance rather than the silly right click menu on the capacitor?

Awesome! Drawing auto-pilot route in the stars is really cool.

Also, HELL YES to having access to the auto-pilot settings outside the map. :D
Wow man, just wow! Terrific! Way to go! Oh yes.....Big smile

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

The first draft of the Dev Blog was actually finished today by CCP Optimal. It might take a few days for it to get to you guys, but we are on it.

This is part of the new Info Panels which can be tried on Singularity. The route in space is courtesy of CCP Mannapi though Game of Drones implemented his work. While it's predominantly a visual representation of the route now, who knows what possibilities it could provide in the future?

Great to see you guys like this Big smile

Try this out: Be at the outgate in your current system and center the camera on it. Then move the camera so that the system which you will be jumping to next is right outside the gate on the screen. Now jump. Watch how your jump line goes to the system with the first plot line going from it.

Could someone explain the point of this?

It looks "pretty" but I'm having a hard time understanding the point of spending time to code that as appposed to any number of things that would actually be usefull in EVE.

Or is this where we are in EVE's life?
Getting excited over stuff that has zero useful fucntionality in the game.

You're complaining about a bit of visual polish on a 3D game which could be functionally represented by a spreadsheet?

You're trolling.

Not all.

I'm complaining that this PARTICULAR visual polish has no functional use. It's not same as improving missile effects, turret effects, the way nebula are viewed.

I'm complaning that I'd rather see functional things getting coded as apposed to useless little visual features that have zero impact on the game as a whole.

It's funny you mention the nebula, because the background is one of those things which too is visual fluff and has little if any functional use from an in-game standpoint.

It's all about creating depth of feel, making the stars on the horizon actually appear to have meaning and context. You can actually see where you're going, rather than the dots in the sky just being some random part of a bitmap skybox.

Ship trails are another thing along the same lines, functionally they have very very little purpose, but they improve the feel of the game. The same could be said of all the visuals in game, we are after all simply dealing with spherical bounding boxes, right?

It's just a matter of depth and context.

It's also the kinda thing that a dev would probably knock-up over a lunch break.

From a gameplay persepctive, this is useless.

From a scifi immersion persecption, this is priceless.

This adds immersion to the game. Immersion is a huge part of a MMORPG. HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, I wonder what the TTP will be on this feature ...

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Like over 9000!

This is a cool little feature extending from the anchored context menu under the current location. This is a nice continuation to the visual and usability overhaul the game has needed for quite a while. Far from useless, it will reduce confusion for new players, while giving a bit of shiny to long-time players.

Further, it works better with a player's spatial relations, something the current map just doesn't do.

Now if we can just banish the five deep roll-over info pop-ups in the star map with something a bit more deliberate... (I'm talking about browsing station services in a particular star system, for example.)
