So, with the impending nerf to boosts causing whining and crying all around, do you (SD forum) believe that training for skills is still worth it?

I'm going to base a remap on what you think will happen, so let's hear it.

As I understand it the big "nerf" will just be to off-grid boosting. It doesn't seem that CCP thinks boosting is a problem, just POS-camping ninja boosting. That said, it looks like Command Ships will be a lot shorter to train into after their skills are reworked, so you might want to wait and see how that shakes out first.

EvE is supposed to suck.  Wait . . . what was the question?

The only "nerf" will be to the skills required for Command Ships.

Notably: Logistics 4 for Fleet Command and Heavy Assault Ships 4 for Field Command.

I recommend you read the Dev Blog - Back to Balancing the Future : Command and Conquer

Only T3 bonuses are being reduced from 5% to 2% (Command Ships remain 3%), but they are gaining bonuses for other links. See the Command and Conquer Dev Blog I linked above.

I read the dev blog when it was released. Is 5% -> 2% not a nerf anymore?

Sure, but it is one boosting ship-type, which everyone knew was unbalanced. It doesn't negate the value of boosting.

2% per level ship skill yields: 12.375 link multiplier bonus (max)

3% per level ship skill yields: 12.9375 link multiplier bonus (max)

5% per level ship skill yields: 14.0625 link multiplier bonus (max)

So now you get two or three bonused links from one ship, instead of just one bonused link. It also makes Gallente boosters useful.

5->2 isn't a nerf when you get 2 in three different categories.

But it is when you used to get 5 in three different categories?

Not from one ship you didn't.

The Damnation and the Claymore will easily be the best Fleet Command ships if the proposed changes go through.

So. No change there there.

Seleene brought up the topic of off-grid boosting, and Fozzie responded that technical limitations were the only reason it continued to exist. Fozzie could not comment on when this issue would be resolved and stated that “one day Veritas will come up to me and say ‘hey I fixed off-grid boosting’”, but he had no idea on a potential timeframe for this sort of miracle.

^ that is from the December CSM meeting notes found here on pg 49: http://community.eveonline.com/council/transcripts/2012/CSM_CCP_Meetings_December_2012.pdf

The only change coming in the near future is the nerfs to T3 boosting percentages and buffs to CS boost percentages. With those changes it'll be far better to stick a command ship at a pos than to have your hard to probe loki at a safespot, but it seems both will remain an option.
