Ok so I am flying around in my drake atm and am trying to figure out where I want to go as a combat pilot. I solo more than anything at the moment but like the idea of big ships as well. I wasnt sure whats the best route for solo combat should I move up to bs, or look at assault ships or what. Too many choice, plus just coming back after two years I feel a sense of confusion again lol.

BS -> Raven
T3 -> Tengu
HAC -> Cerberus

I figure most would recommend a Tengu for your situation

Uhm... solo as in PVE or PVP?
The suggested ships might work for solo PVE; regarding PVP, I'd consider crosstraining to another race.

I'm training for a Tengu, takes a bit of time but its alot more versatile than quite a few others. pve, pvp, exploration i'm sure their is a fit for it somewhere.

For PVE I would recommend the Tengu, you can always get a Golem if you want something big and slow.

Then switch between the two as you see fit for each mission or mood.
Decent fittings can be found on battleclinic. I also like to just experiment with the fits there.

Tengu can be good for pvp too, although I must admit I've never flown one. PL use Tengus to great effect in their gangs.

If you want to solo pvp more then I would really recommend cross training Minmatar... or maybe even Amarr, although Amarr is really only good for massive fleet combat, with logistics due to their unfortunate tendency to run out of cap rather quickly...

Minmatar for solo PvP, get a Loki and be badass.

Well, they mostly focus on support and larger gang warfare, as someone already mentioned above.

If you want to solo pvp in lowsec or nullsec, I'd advise getting a Loki, Vagabond or Cynabal, each with their cons and pros.

Don't overlook the Caracel for a cheap way to break into PvP. With assault missile launchers it makes for an excellent anti frig ship in both small gang and solo.

People keep missing the obvious. The Drake is a good ship to run in. PVE or PVP. I'm not talking about the brick fits that seem to predominate, but a balanced Drake is good for both PVE and PVP. Once you are well skilled into a drake with support skills you can branch out. You can move into a Raven/CNR for Missioning/incursions. Run a Tengu for missions/incursion or PVP. If you are well trained in missile skills you can see about cross training over into another race and stick with smaller ships as well. It all comes to how you like to play. From what you have described though it appears that a Raven to CNR route would just be up your alley. After that you can move into a Golem, which by all accounts is a beast for damage when fit properly (hint: don't fit cruise).

I'm in a similar situation. Flying a Drake in level 4's, prefer solo pve but want to see more of the universe.

What about the Nighthawk? I know it is skill heavy but would it be in line with Drake-> Raven -> CNR -> Tengu ? I'm assuming the Golem is towards the end of the missile/solo pve/some pvp line?

For me, stepping up to a Raven isn't much of a step. I'm currently training for a Nighthawk but wonder if a Tengu is a better.

What about wormholes and incursion? Is there a preferred missile ship for these?

Thanks,
Hapalo

Drakes and Tengus are the Caldari ships I see most commonly in wormholes when I'm prowling. They're solid ships for running sleeper anoms solo.

Incursion...I have no idea.
