I'm loving this game but am making some stupid mistakes. I've been on the Loiet Mensier Business Mining mission 3 for over a day. Everytime I go to the asteroid it says "Veldspar is not a valid target for this module". I am supposed to mine veldspar to refine titanium I believe.

Can anyone help? Thank you.

What module are you trying to use on the veldspar?

Use your civilian miner or Miner 1 module.

I actually had some in-game help. Here was the problem that will seem real obvious to you if you've been playing a while but absolutely dumbfounding if you haven't.

I had to go to the market and buy a mining laser. Seems pretty easy but how would it send you on a mission if absolutely nothing in the training told you that you had to do this. I had the civilian salvager equipped and that was the only thing given. I did get the new laser to work though. :D

Oh and It was equipped to the velocitor. I have two ships and don't really know why. I have a velocitor and a navitas. Are one of these going to be destroyed in a training mission or something?

Can anyone else give any tips on what else to buy for a noob? Thanks.

velators are rookie ships that are provided for free. vou can get any number of rookie ships by just docking in your pod at a station where you have no ships. most people are annoyed by this and just trash the spare velators they get.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I won't give specifics, because I don't recall a lot and I would hate to give wrong advice on accident. However, as a noob, I was very frustrated more than once. Allow me to give you this generalized advice:

Read the mission like a lawyer on a contract.
Make sure you have any applicable mission items before un-dock, where applicable.
Make sure you retrieve mission items that may be hidden due to Overview settings, where applicable.
Make sure you destroy mission items that may be hidden due to Overview settings, where applicable.
In the Advanced Military, make sure you take the provided ships to the one or two that require to get blown up.

And, welcome to EVE.

As a newbie, don't buy anything unless you genuinely need it. Most (but not all) items you need for the tutorial missions are given by the agents.

This is one case where that isn't so.

Let me guess: you're doing the business tutorial before the industry one? If you did the industry one first you would already have a Miner I for the business mission.

CCP have been repeatedly told about this discrepancy but have done absolutely nothing about it.

To all newbies reading this: if you do the tutorials in the order they are presented when you click the tutorial button in your Neocom, problems like this will be minimised.

To CCP: ffs fix this, you've been told enough times.

This. There are questions about this in rookie chat at least a few times an hour asking how to mine without the laser.

That's because I think the Velator you enter the game in (after character creation) doesn't have anything. Velators that you get for free by docking at a station while in your pod have the free laser and free gun.

As a newbie if you do the tutorial missions and the missions for the Career agents, you'll get quite a few ships. You can use them and sell duplicates, but be careful with selling, don't fall to low price scams.

You'll also get a few skills during the tutorials and missions. Train those. Sometimes you get a module or a ship that you don't have the prerequisite skills for (right-click, show info, look at the Requirements tab). You'll probably have to buy those skills from the market and train them.

Once you understand a bit how the game works, and once you're done with the tutorials and have your 1 or few ships, and a bunch of modules, you can aim for getting non-civilian weapons and gear for your ships.

Useful modules that you can look on the market for are:

Afterburner I
Webifier I
Expanded Cargohold I
Capacitor Recharger I
Small Shield Booster I
Small Armor Repairer I
Nanofiber Internal Structure I
Small Shield Extender I

Don't outright buy these things, but find them on the market and right-click and show info on them. You'll see what they do and when it comes time that you need more cargo or more armor or whatever on a ship, get the appropriate one then.
